Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.
The Southern Rag-A-Jazz Band was formed by six University of Nebraska students with Gayle Grubb directing and playing piano. In 1921 they traveled to Europe and one of venues they played was Rector’s Cafe and above is a photograph of them from that tour. Fortunately, they also recorded three sessions while there and a record from one of them starts off this week’s edition of Rapidly Rotating Records. Besides Gayle Grubb, we’ll also be celebrating the birthdays of Benny Rubin, Hjalmar Peterson and Jonathan. Although it’s not his birthday, Frank Quinn also gets his own segment on the show. There’s lots of great music and interesting information, so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and be magically transported back to a different (and we think better!) musical era.
Here’s the complete playlist:

Crooning – Southern Rag-A-Jazz Band
