In our first LGBTQ and Hulu original movie, we follow Abby as she joins her girlfriend Harper on a trip home for the holidays. Only problem is that Harper isn’t out to her family … it is also basically a terrible person. There are lots of references to orphans, family dynamics that should certainly be examined by a licensed therapist, Daniel Levy in a pitch-perfect performance, and we have many thoughts.

We kick off the holiday season with this Netflix RomCom staring the queen, Julia Roberts’ niece, Emma Roberts and a hunky Australian fella who agree to be each other’s platonic dates for every holiday. There’s talk of Ryan Gosling, very little resolution to issues not involving the main characters, a distinct lack of personal hygiene, and we have many thoughts.

In this 2009 RomCom, Ryan Reynolds is forced to get engaged to his boss, a Canadian Sandra Bullock, so that she can stay in the country. Betty White is here, too. Hilarity ensues. There are hawks and hounds (but no horses), an eventful trip to Alaska, chanting in the woods, and we have many thoughts.

Our first foray into the Ryan Reynolds world is this 2005 RomCom in which Ryan’s character, Chris, was a loser in high school but becomes a hot shot later and has a second chance with Jamie, the girl who friend-zoned him back in the day. There are a lot of unresolved anger issues, apparently only one bar in New Jersey, Anna Faris is hopped up on Red Bull and toothpaste, and we have many thoughts.

In one of the highest-grossing and best-reviewed RomComs in years, a woman, Rachel, finds out her boyfriend is basically the prince of Singapore and she might not be exactly what his family had in mind. There is fabulous scenery, an excellent cast, Awkwafina is the best part of the movie, very little actually gets resolved, and we have many thoughts.

In this sequel to the Netflix original, the entire cast is back together (which shouldn’t be shocking, Andrea), and all still lying to each other. There are loud speaker declarations of love, a Dance Dance Revolution tournament, an inexplicable amount of montages, terrible people, and we have many thoughts.

After a brief hiatus, we’re back to review the Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan trifecta of RomComs. All from the 1990s, these films are filled with insane accents, deeply disturbed characters, apparently many references to The Wizard of Oz(?!), some real charm, and we have many thoughts.

In this Netflix original, Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams star as Icelandic musicians with Eurovision Song Contest Dreams. There are elves AND ghosts, elaborate song and dance numbers, something called Ja Ja Ding Dong, and we have many thoughts.

This week, Hilary watched a movie Niki has not seen. It was a high school teen drama that (apparently) Daniel Radcliffe loves and there are notes of Shakespeare, possibly-shroom-induced fantasies, uncomfortable familial relationships, and we have many thoughts.

We switched up the format this week. Niki watched the movie, Hilary did not, so Niki recapped to Hilary, who guessed some things along the way about this 2000 RomCom. There were inexplicable, unnecessary scenes, unfortunate bouts of misogyny, mmmm…cake, and we have many thoughts.
