In this episode, Trevor discusses how building a relationship with your herbs will improve how they will support your healing process. We've been trained in American health that we will take a pill and the problem will be resolved without having to build a relationship with the medicine. Often times, we come to using herbs with that same mentality and take a tincture or capsules and don't think twice about the herb that we just ingested. As a result, we could be significantly limiting our ability to work with plants for healing and can see significantly worse results when we don't form a deeper relationship with the plants.
I draw an analogy to have human friends, what about building relationships with other people ensure we know when we should ask for a specific kind of help from them? What do those relationships with people tell us about our relationships with plant peoples as well? I talk through some practical ways that our chemistry changes and how that impacts the healing power of plants if we are in tune vs. not in tune with them.

Longer than usual, but this topic has lots to unpack! In episode 9 of Re-Leaf Chronic Pain, Trevor discusses the growth of western modern scientific studies in the descriptions and understanding of an herb's effectiveness and usage and the recent trend of describing herbs as good for a specific symptom. Are these the best methods for us to choose herbs for ourselves and bring our bodies back into balance? Should we be picking an herb based on our "diagnosis"?
Trevor discusses the limitations of clinical trials, particularly in how they design and evaluate the WHY behind when something works or doesn't work. He discusses other scientific and spiritual methods to understand an herb from a holistic sense and what those methods offer us and what we miss out on when we try to replace them with modern science. He offers numerous methods for connecting with and finding the right herbs for you that he uses in his clinical herbalism practice.

In this episode of Re-Leaf Chronic Pain, Trevor is joined by the lovely Phoenix, a friend, community member, and client. We talk about the journey to health! From having undiagnosed, unexplained pain, to receiving my evaluation of what was causing the pain, to working with herbs that address the root causes of the pain.
Phoenix shares their journey from being in denial about how bad their undiagnosed chronic pain to working with herbal allies to support their health journey. Having chronic pain and fatigue rooted in a car accident 5 years before, they had no explanation for their chronic pain.
Phoenix shares share how hopeless they felt in a world that downplays our pains and denies us access to what we need to heal from them. I share the explanation for their pain and asks Phoenix what it felt like to receive an explanation for their pains. Phoenix shares what it was like to move from being in denial about their pain, a feeling that was trained in them by how society treated their pains, to having access to the support of herbal allies. We also discuss what it's like to learn techniques of working with plant allies as conscious living beings and what that means for our healing.
The moment, I met Phoenix and they shared a little about their pain, I thought, "This is what fibromyalgia looks like 10 years before I work with most people." This conversation is our message to the people who are living in pain and thinking there's nothing you can do for it: Pain is a message for us to do something for it. Pain doesn't get better unless we address the causes. Let's get healing! For more information about my consultations, visit https://creatingelation.com/consultations

Surprise! We're back for an unplanned part 4 of What the Fascia! Feeling inspired to talk about one accessible way of releasing the tension in the fascia: touch. Many of people experience fascial tension as a result of experiencing violent and unsafe touch in their life. Even if for folks that haven't been the target of sexual violence or physical injury, outside stimulus can be stressful in our society. Figuring out the right herbs or the creating the space for deep spiritual work that can be immensely healing can be daunting at first. While we'd love to help you cultivate those, you can always start on something you don't need new practices or access to herbs: touch!
Finding ways to create external stimulus that changes our relationship with it, particularly with touch. What's so important about touch? How can you cultivate healing touch in your life? Listen to episode 7 and find out how this process can be helping to our bodies!

Okay, so we have fascial tissue locking up as a result of trauma or injury, how the heck do we release it? Welcome to part 3 of What the Fascia! In this episode, Trevor discusses the use of wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) in spiritual herbal practice to release the trauma that is making us lock up our fascial tissue and carry pain. This is a key step in healing from chronic pain as stretching and other body work can have short lived effects if we don't address the pattern of locking fascia back up over and over after our body work. This approach is highly relevant for folks with issues stemming from pelvic floor disfunction, fibromyalgia, migraines, and other pain that present high tension in muscles and other tissue.
Trevor discusses how wormwood's indications towards being an anti-parasitic and bitter herb give us an understanding of how they work on the spirit plane. He introduces two different approaches to preparing and using wormwood for this kind of release. Mentioning a few warnings and considerations in working with wormwood in this way, Trevor presents a broad image of the power of wormwood in this approach to healing.
This wraps up our short 3-part series on fascial tissue. We hope you enjoyed these episodes! As always, send your questions, thoughts, and experiences to [email protected] and you can learn more and see all the episode at CreatingElation.com/podcast. Talk to you soon!
