I’m American. When I realized that Independence Day, July 4, 2020, was a Saturday on my schedule, I decided to make it my first Ready, Poorly special! I’ll read the Declaration of Independence (written by Thomas Jefferson) and the Preamble to The Constitution of the United States of America (James Madison). Maybe in future years I’ll read more of the Constitution or something.
Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - Chapter 5: Advice from a Caterpillar | Alice meets a strange caterpillar, who tries to help her find her wits. I read some poetry, and discuss a little of how I like to do it. Also, rapid-fire weird references.
Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - Chapter 4: The Rabbit Sends in a Little Bill | Alice tracks down the rabbit, but finds herself in a tight spot. I...trip over myself.
Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - Chapter 3: A Caucus Race and a Long Tale | Alice and her companions are sipping wet, and just find a solution. I discuss punctuation. Yep, that’s me alright. You’ll also learn a bit about my recording schedule though! That’s cool, right?
Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - Chapter 2: The Pool of Tears | Things to get weird after Alice lands...wherever she landed. I get to flex my Latin a bit (man it’s been a while).
Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - Chapter 1: Down the Rabbit Hole | Young Alice chases after a strange sight, and I come out swinging with my grammar commentary. | A content note: this book contains several scenes of strange happenings resulting from ingesting unknown substances—if you’re sensitive to anything resembling drug use, you may not like this book. I’m not marking this explicit however, as the events of the story, and even the “strange happenings”, are not similar to narratives overtly about drug use.
Agatha Christie's The Mysterious Affair at Styles - Chapter 13 "Poirot Explains" | Choose your own description: 1) Poirot...uh...explains. 2) You’ll never guess what Poirot does. 3) What Poirot does in this chapter WILL SHOCK YOU. | This is the last episode of this book. Thanks for listening, and watch your feed for a new book next week!
Agatha Christie's The Mysterious Affair at Styles - Chapter 12 "The Last Link" | Poirot has had an idea gigantic, stupendous, and new! I’ll preemptively apologize for my “French” in this one—it’s pretty bad.
Agatha Christie's The Mysterious Affair at Styles - Chapter 11 "The Case for the Prosecution" | We’ve seen an inquest, now let’s get to a trial! I also discuss silly lawyer names, because of course I do.
Agatha Christie's The Mysterious Affair at Styles - Chapter 10: "The Arrest" | An arrest is made! But there are too many chapters left for it to have been this easy, aren’t there? Have I mentioned I’m kind of an esoteric grammar nerd, by the way?
