  • Book Bites: How to Change Your Mind
Book Bites are quick looks at a book from our Guest Host readers. Try a new book this week! And this week our Guest Host is admiring the book How to Change Your Mind: What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence, by Michael Pollan. "A unique and elegant blend of science, memoir, travel writing, history, and medicine, How to Change Your Mind is a triumph of participatory journalism. By turns dazzling and edifying, it is the gripping account of a journey to an exciting and unexpected new frontier in our understanding of the mind, the self, and our place in the world. The true subject of Pollan's "mental travelogue" is not just psychedelic drugs but also the eternal puzzle of human consciousness and how, in a world that offers us both suffering and joy, we can do our best to be fully present and find meaning in our lives." • Book Bites: Sex in the Museum
Book Bites are quick looks at a book from our Guest Host readers. Try a new book this week! And this week our Guest Host is admiring the book Sex in the Museum: My Unlikely Career at New York's Most Provocative Museum, by Sarah Forbes. "In SEX IN THE MUSEUM, Sarah invites readers to travel from suburban garages where men and women build sex machines, to factories that make sex toys, to labyrinthine archives of erotica collectors. Escorting us in to the hidden world of sex, illuminating the never-talked-about communities and eccentricities of our sexual subcultures, and telling her own personal story of a decade at The Museum of Sex, Sarah asks readers to grapple with the same questions she did: when it comes to sex, what is good, bad, deviant, normal? Do such terms even apply? If everyone has sexual secrets, is it possible to really know another person and be known by them? And importantly, in our hyper-sexualized world, is it still possible to fall in love?" Subscribe to our newsletter, our social media, and our podcasts to stay up to date on all kinds of great stuff! • Book Bites: All the Wrong Moves
Book Bites are quick looks at a book from our Guest Host readers. Try a new book this week! And this week our Guest Host is admiring the book All the Wrong Moves: A Memoir About Chess, Love, and Ruining Everything, by Sasha Chapin. "Sasha Chapin is a victim of chess. Like countless amateurs before him--Albert Einstein, Humphrey Bogart, Marcel Duchamp--the game has consumed his life and his mind. First captivated by it as a member of his high school chess club, his passion was rekindled during an accidental encounter with chess hustlers on the streets of Kathmandu. In its aftermath, he forgot how to care about anything else. He played at all hours, for weeks at a time. Like a spurned lover, he tried to move on, but he found the game more seductive the more he resisted it." About Reading with Libraries Podcast

From the publisher's feed

We are a book group podcast, looking at a new genre each week. We enjoy a beverage that matches the theme of the episode, we talk about some books we like with our Guest Hosts, and we share resources for finding more books. We work in a library system, and many of our guests work in libraries - so we have a lot of fun books to share!
