  • Library Happiness Episode 101
Welcome to Happiness in Libraries! Each month we are looking at a few stories about happy things that happen in libraries, or happy things that libraries contribute to their communities. Libraries are great organizations, and can be so important to the communities they serve. Those communities can be an entire city or town that a public library serves, the teachers and students in schools, the patients, nurses, and doctors in hospitals, or whoever else the library community is serving. In these little bonus podcasts, we want to highlight some of the interesting and positive things a few libraries are doing! If you have some great things to share, send them to us at [email protected]. Thanks so much for joining us this week. It's so great to have this time to spend together to enjoy the work libraries are doing all over the place! We hope you are inspired to take a few moments today to enjoy your library, and the work going on around you.

  • Episode 401: Tea, Cookies, and Murder
Welcome back! It's Season Four of our podcast book group: Reading with Libraries! We hope you have enjoyed all of our short Book Bites, and now we are looking forward to settling in to read more books with you! You can find our full show notes page here! (We keep all the genre info there, links to books we share, and links to the beverages we enjoyed during the episode.) We usually spend our sessions chatting with our Guest Hosts about genres they like - and it's always fun. This season we are going to do that, and we are also going to have each of our three staff members pick a genre we like! So today, we are going to look at one of Mary's favorite genres: Cozy Mysteries Cozy mysteries are always fun to read. You know nothing too horrible is going to happen, you know the appropriate bad guy is going to get caught in the end, and if there is a romance element in the story, you know the two people will end up happy together. In short: these are nice stories when you want to enjoy yourself, and read things not too taxing. When life gets you down, read a cozy mystery and things will seem a little better. • Book Bites: The Constellation Game
Book Bites are quick looks at a book from our Guest Host readers. Try a new book this week! Today's book is The Constellation Games by Leonard Richardson. "Ariel Blum is pushing thirty and has very little to show for it. He's using his computer science degree to write pony-themed video games for ten-year-olds. He hasn't met a nice Jewish girl because he's secretly in love with his best friend, Jenny Gallegos. Whenever he tries to make something of his life, he finds himself back on the couch, replaying the games of his youth. • Book Bites: A Walk in the Woods
Book Bites are quick looks at a book from our Guest Host readers. Try a new book this week! Today's book is A Walk in the Woods, by Bill Bryson. "The Appalachian Trail trail stretches from Georgia to Maine and covers some of the most breathtaking terrain in America–majestic mountains, silent forests, sparking lakes. If you're going to take a hike, it's probably the place to go. And Bill Bryson is surely the most entertaining guide you'll find. He introduces us to the history and ecology of the trail and to some of the other hardy (or just foolhardy) folks he meets along the way–and a couple of bears. Already a classic, A Walk in the Woods will make you long for the great outdoors (or at least a comfortable chair to sit and read in)." Book Bites are quick looks at a book from our Guest Host readers. Try a new book this week! Today's book is Beach Town, by Mary Kay Andrews. "Between an ambitious director and his entourage―including a spoiled "It Boy" lead actor―who parachute into town, a conniving local ex-socialite, and a cast of local fangirls and opportunists who catch the movie bug, nothing is going to be the same in Cypress Key. Now Greer is forced to make some hard choices: about the people and the town she's come to care about, and about her own life. True love is only for the movies, right? Can Greer find a way to be the heroine in her own life story? Told with inimitable heart and humor, Mary Kay Andrews' Beach Town is the perfect summer destination." About Reading with Libraries Podcast

From the publisher's feed

We are a book group podcast, looking at a new genre each week. We enjoy a beverage that matches the theme of the episode, we talk about some books we like with our Guest Hosts, and we share resources for finding more books. We work in a library system, and many of our guests work in libraries - so we have a lot of fun books to share!
