Dr. Alan Tidwell shares information about the new minor in real estate offered by the Culverhouse College of Business at The University of Alabama.  Previously offered as a finance specialization, the real estate minor provides a background in real estate fundamentals and decision making through different academic disciplines including economics, finance, sales, management, and law.  As the Alabama Association of Realtors® Chair of Real Estate at Culverhouse, Tidwell also discusses his vision for the future of the 80-year-old real estate program and how it is preparing workforce-ready graduates.

According to NAR's Real Estate in a Digital Age 2018 Report, 92% of REALTORS® prefer to communicate with their clients through text messaging. As texting boasts higher open rates and quicker response times than email, it is easy to understand why people are choosing to engage in text. 

Matt Tompkins joins ACRE's Cherie Moman to discuss how to remain compliant when texting in transactions, what to watch out for, and what is required to market through SMS messaging.

Dedra Cabaniss currently serves as NAR's federal political coordinator (FPC) for Representative Terri Sewell, Alabama 7th Congressional District. Dedra recently attended the NAR Midyear Conference in Washington, D.C. and shared information from her time there along with an explanation about what an FPC does. Dedra is a REALTOR® with Pritchett-Moore Real Estate in Tuscaloosa and has served the real estate industry in positions at the local, state and national levels.

Jack Kubiszyn joins ACRE's Stuart Norton to discuss the Alabama Supreme Court's recent reversal on its ruling of GHB Construction and Development Company, Inc. v. West Alabama Bank and Trust.  According to Kubiszyn, "This revised opinion by the Alabama Supreme Court has provided clarity moving forward on several fronts. Legally, guidance exists as to when a future advance mortgage is created for priority purposes when compared to other liens. More importantly, the lending and the title industry have certainty that the loans being made and title policies being written are valid and enforceable, which is essential for construction matters in the future."

Kubiszyn is a partner at the Christian & Small law firm where he specializes in commercial real estate. He is also a lifetime member of ACRE's Leadership Council.

Brenda Wallace is an Associate Broker at Roberts Brothers Inc on the Gulf Coast as well as a real estate trainer for the Baldwin County Association of REALTORS school and the Academy of Real Estate.  She has written a book on REALTOR safety titled "Avoid Danger: Think Safety First!" which will be available on Amazon in July. On the podcast, Brenda shares some information from her book on personal, environmental and cyber safety.
