The phrase “iron sharpens iron” is found in Proverbs 27:17: “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” There is mutual benefit in the rubbing of two iron blades together; the edges become sharper, making the knives more efficient in their task to cut and slice. Likewise, the Word of God is a “double-edged sword” (Hebrews 4:12), and it is with this that we are to sharpen one another—in times of meeting, fellowship, or any other interaction.

    Fear

    NOUN

    1. an unpleasant often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger
    2. an instance of this emotiona state marked by this emotion
    3. anxious concern : solicitude
    4. profound reverence and awe especially toward God
    5. reason for alarm : danger

If we give in to fear during a highly charged event and react with a strong emotion, that’s a conditioned response. But if we can sit with discomfort and overcome it; if we can refrain from judging the experience as “good” or “bad;” a whole new world opens up to us.
