In this episode, Sam discusses the challenges she faced growing up to parents who spent nearly every hour of every day working in a donut shop that was purchased from the Donut King himself, Ted Ngoy. Sam discusses the work ethic she developed from her parents, how that work ethic carried over into her own dream of owning a business, and how she works to find the balance between career and motherhood. Sam also discusses the difficulties of keeping a business open during the pandemic of 2020 and how she was able to find other sources of income to keep her business afloat.

In this episode of Real Talks on the Rocks, I sit down with Ellison Lee, who is a paralegal by career. Ellison gives his perspective on the challenges that face todays long adults and compares it to what he went though growing up in the 80's and 90's. Ellison also discusses some of the challenges that modern society faces and how all of this information helped him grow as a person. Both Ellison and me believe this type of conversation is something that needs to happen more and more between people, and groups, that try to silence the other rather than listen to each other.
Chi Yeh is an interior designer, mother of two and immigrant from Laos. In this episode, Chi talks about coming to America at the age of 4 with three other siblings and a family that had nothing to their name. Chi reflects on the work ethic her parents instilled in her and how she was able to raise a young son as a single mother because of this.
She also talks about the inspiration for her business as an interior designer as well as the challenges she still faces as a woman working with contractors on a job site.
Chi's journey from immigrant, to single mother, to nursing student to re-married with a new interior design business is the ultimate proof of just how possible it is to achieve your dreams in America if you are willing to put in the work and sacrifice that is required of it.
