About Rebel Human:
A rebel human is someone who has the strength and clarity of purpose to go against norms in order to bring about constructive change for themself and the world around them. They do the hard thing when it's the right thing.
Rebel Human offers a video-based program for high schools, classes, retreats, small-group and corporate events and trainings that build rebel humans: individuals who push back against norms that are harmful to themselves and others and act in accordance with their values regardless of the status quo.
Science Based - If we want to change our physiology in real time we need to use things that are both under our control AND connected to the autonomic nervous system. These are our entry points for change. Breath, focus, movement, and self-talk are these entry points. These are the “dials you can turn” in any given moment to dramatically change how you show up for your life.
The programming at Rebel Human uses movement, meditation, and creative expression to develop the core competencies of resilience, equanimity, and transcendence (read our FAQs for more on these), the building blocks of a rebel human. Movement strengthens the nervous system, building resilience in the body that translates to resilience in our lives. Meditation actively trains the brain to process and navigate difficult emotions with equanimity and clarity. Creative expression allows a reimagining of a better world for ourself and others while actively connecting us with our values and greater purpose. The world needs more rebel humans, learn to be one now.

Jenny and Tait discuss the topic of forgiveness. This was the topic this week at Rebel Human. All the classes were crafted around the topic. Tait and Jenny share the things that came up in their own journey of exploring forgiveness.
Tait explains what thing Jenny is doing that is creeping her out. She also reads The Prayer of St. Francis and talks about the deep excavation that AA does around forgiveness. She also shares how she can be atheist and still use these prayers. Tait has been sober for 20 years and shares a bit about her earlier work around forgiveness supported by AA.
Jenny reads the email she wrote to the community on forgiveness.

Jenny and Tait talk about the program they are building to support school districts this Fall. As schools scramble, working day and night to prepare, they also acknowledge the programming holes. Additionally, we now know the toll that daily e-learning can take on kids. School systems don’t have the infrastructure to provide high quality supplemental instruction. We want to help. We’ve worked out the kinks around digital asynchronous learning.
They talk about all the amazing teachers they’ve brought in to build the program, from a dancer who toured with Beyonce, Ashley Rockwell, to James Beard Grant Winner, Jasmine Sheth, to a recording artist, Jess Godwin, who has taught 40,000 people to write their song.
They give a sneak peak of this new programming for schools and explain how it will get the kids inspired, off their screens to explore, and begin creating instead of consuming.

We are excited to have Ellen King on the show today, founder of Hewn. Hewn is a bakery that Ellen started out of her condo.
Ellen talks about the ways she is a Rebel Human!
In the beginning, she delivered bread with her 3 year old son on their way to preschool with their Burley brimming with loaves. It is now a household name in Evanston and beyond.
Everything at Hewn is made in-house, from scratch daily. Ellen tells the story of her winding path to baking bread and how it helped her through depression.
If she had medicated herself, or ignored her depression, she may not have jumped into bread baking with the intensity and dedication that she did. She may not have found herself, her gift, her business, and her community. She has been sharing her gift and feeding the community for years, and we are grateful.
The word hewn—which means to give form or shape with heavy cutting blows by hand—is a way to connect the past with the future. In a time of big box stores and large chains, Hewn is a return back to a smaller, independently owned and operated bakery.

Jenny and Tait took their last episode, “Race to Nowhere” to heart and paused last week. They discuss what they did during that time of pausing their output of content, their new signature Rebel Human Training class, and their new assessment.
They share their latest funny about how until 3:00pm, Tait is all science, then when the clock strikes, she turns into woo-woo witchy.
They haven’t been singing enough lately, so it’s time to bring back their closeout song. Please send your requests for which song they should sing at the end of next episode.

Live: 07/13/20
Many people are racing back to the lives they had before. The stay-at-home order during the pandemic gave us an opportunity to slow down our lives and strip them down to what was most important.
We don’t need to rush right back into the lives we had before mindlessly. There is a reckoning in our country, along with our own personal reckoning. Tait and Jenny talk about how they are honing the Rebel Human curriculum and brand awareness as they reimagine the future.

Jenny and Tait discuss the reckoning that’s happening, unveiling the truth of the past and looking at our current socio-political structure. They share the things that white people shouldn’t say anymore and talk about the tearing down and rebuilding they went through the day before taping this episode. In that tearing down, they discuss how to embody the alternatives, completely let go of the current state, and how Jenny entertained the alternate reality of selling widgets. They discuss reform vs. transformation and how transformation is a reimagining, a brand new way of being in the world.

Tait and Jenny have a special guest this episode. They welcome Evanston’s 5th Ward Alderman Robin Rue to Rebel Human Radio. Evanston is the first municipality in the country to pass a resolution on reparations to their Black community and Robin Rue took the lead in bringing it to City Council for the vote. After years of ground work and months of negotiations, Robin got an almost unanimous vote and it passed. Robin talks with Jenny and Tait about her work and the necessity of reparations.
Education isn’t going to close the wealth gap. Reparations can close that gap. White high school dropouts have more wealth than Black college graduates. White college graduates have seven times the wealth as Black college graduates. These are just a couple of examples among thousands that illustrate the wealth gap that isn’t closing. There is also a life expectancy gap so white people on average have 15 more years to accumulate wealth and build a financial legacy to hand down.
Robin talks about what white people can be doing to help and what they can stay out of.

Tait and Jenny cover living with uncertainty and share their personal experiences (suicide and divorce) of when they learned nothing was certain in life. Tait talks about her first foray into the world since the shelter-in-place order. They discuss how we can come through this pandemic with a new vision for the future and how we can be both uncertain and joyful at the same time.
Their funnies include nipples, camel toe, an update on Tait’s hand signals, and the dirge that infiltrated a video.
