This week's episode is a special edition! I had the pleasure of sitting down and talking with Hannah Jenarine from the Victim Service Center of Orlando, Florida. I hope you enjoy listening to our conversation as much as I enjoyed speaking with Hannah.

Emotional reasoning is a cognitive distortion in which people believe that their emotions are accurate reflections of reality. Narcissists are particularly prone to emotional reasoning because they have a strong need to maintain a positive self-image. They often interpret events and other people's behavior in a way that confirms their own superiority and importance.
We will dive into the narc's use of emotional reasoning and see how they lack whole object relations and object constancy.  The narcissist is emotionally arrested and here, we look at how you can free yourself through knowledge of the NPD individual's emotional reasoning trap though knowledge.

I look forward to healing with you.

  • 13: The Narcissist’s Flying Monkeys & Journal Entry

Send the host a message here!

"Flying monkeys" is a term, as you’ve probably already connected, that’s borrowed from the Wizard of Oz story, where the Wicked Witch of the West sends out her flying monkeys to do her bidding. In the context of dealing with narcissists, "flying monkeys" refer to individuals who are manipulated or recruited by a narcissist to assist in their manipulative schemes. These individuals often act as enablers, spreading the narcissist's narrative, defending their behavior, and sometimes even participating in their abusive tactics. This weeks journal entry is themed on your personal growth and how the awareness of “flying monkeys” will inform your relationships moving forward.

I look forward to healing with you.

  • 12: False Hope: How this Extends the Life of the Toxic Relationship & Journal Entry

Send the host a message here!

This week, we look at the hope we have that the relationship will get better. We look at how and why narcissists manufacture this sense of hope in us by first showing us what we long for in them and then slowly devolving into abuse. Just as we hit rock bottom, the cycle starts again with idealization, igniting hope all over again. We also look at how we are susceptible to this false hope and therefore how we can be more aware of it. The journal entry for this week is also themed on setting new, truly hopeful goals for ourselves.

I look forward to healing with you.

Send the host a message here!

In this second of three episodes on narcissistic parenting, we call out all of the hallmarks of a narcissistic parent. if you are the adult child of a narcissist, you may recognize many or even all of these.
There are certain key elements that are usually present in parenting.  To the best of someone's ability they will try to be consistent, they will empathize, sacrifice, be self-aware, use discipline, have empathy and equanimity.  These are precisely all of the qualities that someone with narcissistic personality disorder is incapable of because, as part of the disorder, they do not possess them.
I hope that, in hearing about these characteristics,  you are aided in identifying and validating your experience with your narcissistic parent or parents.

I look forward to healing with you.

In this first episode of three, we look at the narcissistic family dynamic and also the 'rules of engagement' with a narcissistic parent. Following this episode, the next two will dive deeper and we will end with how to survive and thrive after a childhood with a narcissistic parent.
