In which our heroes talk s*** about.....Records and Bands.

This is a proper old school, sitting round with your mates, did you see this, that and the other, kind of conversation that we always had as kids.
We wish a Happy Birthday to Blink 182 legend, and recent cancer survivor, Mark Hoppus, chat about Bruce Springsteens Wrecking Ball hitting a 10 year anniversary and talk about co-writing again, with Ed Sheeran defending his process in court in a copyright dispute.

We try to stay on the right side of celebrity gossip while talking about Kanye Wests recent sh***y behaviour. It only seems right after showing him so much love over the last year that we also call out his bad side.

After all of that we have a little chat around some recent listens, Rex Orange County and Shelter as well as some Limp Bizkit in preparation for another show. 

Finally we start making plans for our birthday show next month. Sh***y indie disco anybody??

In which our heroes talk s*** about Ben Folds.....again!

I'm joined this week by new, regular cohost Leon to talk about how I think Ben Folds is the greatest songwriter of my lifetime, or failing that at least in the top one. 

We send birthday wishes to Jeff Ament, Steve Harris and Gaz Coombes and share memories of Supergrass. We pay tribute to 3 "Great" records celebrating anniversaries this week in U2's The Joshua Tree, Let Me Come Over from the wonderful Buffalo Tom and the sledgehammer of the debut album from Bodycount.

After that we get into some of our recent listens including Scandinavian rockers Volbeat and Leon tells us about nearly joining a cult while watching Ghost at Knebworth (we'll have a review on the new album in a couple of weeks) I took a time out from listening to Mark Lanegan last week and cheered myself up with the first album from under the radar, high energy carnival steampunks, Tankus the Henge.

I close the show by trying to sell Leon on my favourite artist, Ben Folds. After Sam dismissed the first album from Ben Folds Five with "I just don't want it anywhere near me" (A quote for the poster!) I hope to have more luck with my best friend of 30 years. Warning his tenure as co-host of this podcast could be short-lived!!

In which our heroes talk s*** about Fountains of Wayne and the black wave of 2000s Emo.

This week we welcome back our good friend Jason Fletcher for a great chat about the Emo scene of the 2000s and a rather poppy antidote to all the black hearts and emotions in the form of one of our favourite bands, Fountains of Wayne.

Before we get there we chat about the new album from Frank Turner, a Guardian article ranking the Top 30 Manic Street Preachers songs and then I air my mixed feelings on the new Eddie Vedder solo album. Earthling.

In a week where my daughter has been flirting with the emo of it all, I asked you, our dear listener, just what did I miss from that period in the 2000s when bands like Fall Out Boy, Paramore and My Chemical Romance ruled the airwaves. Armed with your suggestions and a bit of help from the others on the show, I go to Emo school!

To finish on a lighter note, we get into a band that can only ever make me smile. Fountains of Wayne. I recall hearing their first single, Radiation Vibe, seeing them at a rare UK appearance at Reading Festival, we discount their biggest hit and Jason brings a playlist of his favourite Fountains of Wayne tracks before declaring our Record of the Week.

In which our heroes are joined by Jamie from Talking Dad UK to talk s*** about Motorhead. 

It's another busy show as we celebrate 45 years of British Punk with the anniversary of the first UK punk album, 1977's Damned Damned Damned by The Damned, look forward to the new Kanye West documentary arriving on Netflix this week and pay a short tribute to The Mighty Mighty Bosstones who recently decided to call it a day.

Sam fills us in on the winners and losers in this years Brit awards (which only he really cares about) before we get onto some of the records and bands we've been listening to lately including Gang of Youths, Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes, Yelawolf and Overload by Yard Act. 

We hear from you, our dear dear listener, with your albums to get us through February, moan about festival ticket prices and chat about some of the bands we've seen and those we haven't before Jamie drops his favourite Motorhead tracks on us and tell us about his love for the metal monsters.

In which our heroes talk s*** about basslines, bassists and all things bass. It's all about that bass bass bass! This week Rob is joined by bass player extraordinaire, Leon Bateman.

Leon has been on the show a few times now and will hopefully become a semi-regular guest host as we move forward.  We note a few anniversaries including 50 years of Neil Youngs Harvest, and a 30th birthday for the Manic Street Preachers debut record, Generation Terrorists. After getting Leons thoughts on the most recent release from his favourite band, Iron Maiden, we have a chat about Justin Hawkins (from The Darkness) new Youtube channel and some of Leons favourite records that weren't written by Steve Harris and co.  This takes us down a path that leads to the bottom of the scale. Bass.

Leon has played bass since he was 14, and we touch on some of the telling offs we got as he tried to practice while his Dad was in bed after a night shift. Since then he's played in a few bands, most notably with Rob on drums in a small room at the back of the youth centre to audiences of zero. He has moved on to play with more talented but less fun musicians and to notably bigger audiences.
Finally he presents a bass centric playlist for us listen to containing such artists as Billy Ocean, Space Hog, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and, of course, Mr Stevie Wonder. 

Oh, Rob also manages to coax the bass line to Salt 'n' Peppa's "Push it" out of his battered old guitar. Stick around to the end for that treat!!

In which our heroes talk s*** about the passing of a legend, some anniversaries of cool albums and some of the bands that have caught our attention recently. 

Some big stories in the news this week, Bono says Bono can't sing, Damon Albarn says Taylor Swift doesn't write and we mark the passing of a rock legend, Meatloaf with a little playlist of some of his massive tunes. Some notable albums hit notable ages as we talk about anniversaries for, among others, Rancid, Silverchair and Jamie T.
Its been a busy time for catching up on records so we have plenty to say around Bedouin Soundclash, Sam Fender and Sam Fender, while I make Sam listen to Tramp Stamps before we get into my new favourite band (at least for this week) Fontaine's D.C.

We're back with the first Records and Bands Podcast of 2022 and it's a bit of a rambling affair.
