In this deeply personal anniversary episode, I reflect on my 14 years alcohol-free.
We are talking about the obstacles that do not always show up in conventional recovery stories: functioning while quietly falling apart, discovering that alcohol was doing a job, learning to feel without immediately escaping, outgrowing rooms and relationships, and realizing that pleasure and peace can feel uncomfortable after years of survival.
We are also talking about the accomplishments: self-trust, curiosity, honest connection, meaningful work, joy, boundaries, community, and the life I built after alcohol stopped being the main character.
The woman I have been forced to become is elite.
And if fourteen years has taught me anything, it is that recovery is not only about avoiding the life you want to escape.
It is about becoming someone who can fully inhabit the life you build.
Thank you to everyone who has helped me, worked with me, trusted me, and allowed me to be part of their journey.
Here’s to 14 years—and to seeing how much better I can get.
