We were made to worship so we're all going to worship something. And what you worship is what you'll obey. But the good news is we who were once slaves to sin have been set free to be slaves of God. What we used to serve brought death, but serving God leads us to sanctification, righteousness, and life.

The gospel not only frees you from the penalty of sin, but it frees you from the power of sin, so that you might walk in newness of life.

Romans 5:12-21. The Gospel declares an astounding future hope that is one of abounding eternal love, friendship and the glory of God. How can one be certain? The short answer, is that humanity and its destiny is bound to two men.

Paul has been laying the foundation of justification by faith alone and here he says it radically changes how we live. It gives us a hope for the future and a present confidence.

Paul reveals that the righteousness we need is outside of us, earned and won by Christ. This righteousness is received by faith, and in so doing gives us an objective standing of righteousness before God.

The purpose of the law is not to make us righteous, because it cannot. The purpose of the law is to show us we are sinners just like everyone else. This not only effects the way we treat others, but shows us our need for help outside of ourselves--shows us our need for Jesus

Moralism / religion can lead to a misplaced confidence in the external. The solution is an inward transformation of the heart.

The news that Jesus is risen is packed with meaning. This passage beckons us to consider and respond to this life transforming news.

Region fails us but thankfully through the gospel we don’t need to be good enough on our own.

This passage shows us the bad news, so that we might understand the good news.
