Is homosexuality compatible with orthodox Christianity? What are the various ways the Church has dealt with this pertinent issue? In this second sermon on homosexuality, Pastor Scott explores the various views within the Church and inspects the biblical material, especially the use of the Greek word (arsenokoitai) for “homosexuals” in 1 Corinthians 6:9.

We live in a day where the story of Homosexuality is seen as an appeal to be authentic and true to ourselves. Our inner self and inner voice is where we "must learn who we are." But in God’s kindness, he has actually given us bodies that speak to us and are themselves a “reservoir of meaning.” This means the story and life of homosexuality is offering us a counterfeit to what Jesus offers us, and only in the Lordship of Jesus we do learn both who we are and how our bodies are made to find their fulfillment in him. The great task of the church today is not to bash and abolish the gay community, but to rather draw them to Jesus through our lives of sacrifice and love poured out before all image bearers.

The hook up culture is the worldview that promotes sex as simply for fun and pleasure. Everyone should do it. However, we are finding that this worldview is leaving millions more broken and unfulfilled than ever because sex is more than physical. It involves the whole person. This is the reason the Biblical worldview promotes sex as fulfilling between a husband and wife. Sexuality has become the dominant cultural narrative of our day, and whatever you believe about issues regarding sexuality, we all have to admit how fast this change has occurred in our country. The church has not always responded well to this fast-paced, frantic reality. Some churches have begun to embrace the current sexual norms, while others have raged against them. What should the church do? In this opening sermon to the series, Pastor Scott addresses these issues while laying out a biblical paradigm that will serve as the framework for the rest of the series.

We realize that if God is the source of all knowledge, then the only way to know things truly is to know them through the means God has created. And if this is true, then we have a stable foundation by which to not only defend the truths of Jesus, but to also “destroy and dismantle strongholds” as the Scriptures call us to do.
