One of the big messages in Ecclesiastes is learning to grasp this reality - life in this world eludes our control. How then should we live? We'll wrestle with this question and learn what it means to walk in the way of wisdom.

In Part 2 of Listening to God we talked about the spiritual discipline of listening to God's Word and what it looks like to form our everyday lives around it. Listen in and begin your journey of forming your life around God's Word.

This is a message about learning how to listen to God through His word. And one of the ways Ecclesiastes exposes our need to listen, comes from identifying and repenting of hypocrisy in our lives.

This chapter tells us we have to share what we enjoy because there are two ways to live in the world. You can either hate your neighbor and so destroy yourself, or you can love your neighbor and so love yourself

Living well in God’s world means recognizing that when it comes to our own lives, we are not mini-gods, and this is his creation, not ours. Our life is given to us and things come and go and seasons change, and it is only God who knows exactly where everything is meant to go, in which order, at what time, and why.

Ecclesiastes 1-2 teaches that only God gives to us enjoyment and satisfaction in life. Endless enjoyment does not come in a box, does not come from sex, it is not the key ring to your dream house. We all know what it’s like to have tasted the best life has to offer and still be left wondering what comes next. God has to give us enjoyment, or the thing itself (box, sex, house) will leave us unsatisfied.

If we won’t live forever, or even long enough to make a lasting difference to the world, how then should we live? It takes the whole of Ecclesiastes to answer that question – the argument is cumulative and we need to allow the Preacher to give us the answer bit by bit, like an artist painting a canvas – here is the 1st answer: Accepting death is the first step in learning to live
