The brothers continue their mini-series on the divine decrees by discussing their logical ordering.
The brothers discuss how God's decrees of election and reprobation are both active, but not symmetrical.
We don't have to worry about God making a decree and not following through, because His decrees are rooted in His perfect character. What He decrees is what will come to pass. A rock-solid foundation for a calm and confident trust is God's unwavering character and faithfulness. If we can take Him at His word, we can rest secure that everything He has promised will come to pass (in time).
God's decree is exhaustive. God predestines all things to come to pass, and nothing happens apart from his decree and will. His decree is not limited to salvation but extends even to those who don't believe. This may sound scary, but in reality it is beautiful because we can rest in knowing that our future has already been decreed by an all-powerful and loving God who knows what is best for us.
God's decrees have always been a source of comfort and assurance for Reformed Christians. God's decrees bring reassurance that everything will ultimately turn out as it should, even if we are unaware of what will happen next in our personal lives or in world events. They give us a sense of confidence that God is able to bring good from all things.
The brothers answer listener questions about InSepOp, the Law and the Gospel, Marriage, and more.
On this episode, the Brothers talk about how a robust doctrine of the Trinity is beneficial to our practical piety. Although a simple confession is just fine, it is a sign of growing maturity to be able to go deeper.
The Trinity is a mysterious topic. It's okay if you don't understand it all. A basic articulation of the faith is okay. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are distinct persons, but are also one God. This suffices for a first introduction to what Christians believe about God.
God reveals himself to us not only in Jesus Christ, but also in three persons. To really understand what it means that Jesus died for you, we have to get past a surface level reading of Scripture and get into how God has always revealed himself to us. This podcast episode will help you explore how the doctrine of the Trinity shapes everything about how we understand who God is and why he does what he does.
The brothers close out the Scripture portion of the Fundamentals series by talking about how Scripture is our clear rule for faith and practice.
The brothers talk about Scriptural infallibility and inerrancy.
The patriarch of the Reformed Brotherhood, and its resident pastor, joins the brothers for a discussion about pastoral theology.
