  • Motivational Biology: Rethinking Health Through an ADHD Lens

Welcome back to the Refuel Your Fire podcast, it’s been a long while since my last post and there’s a lot I’ve been thinking about.

With my recent nutrition certification I’m keen to take this podcast and the insights shared on the show to the next level and with my recent ADHD diagnosis I’m also thinking more about health and motivation through a neurodivergent-friendly lens.

Today’s podcast episode is a meandering one where we’ll discuss Motivational Biology, a term I recently began to use to describe motivation from this perspective. I’ve also created a short video walk-through on the difference between the traditional view of motivation and motivational biology which you can watch here.

We’ll also talk about the problem with images of “healthiness” that are portrayed in the media and on social media by so-called “health experts” and the problems these ideals can create for many of us when it comes to setting health and wellbeing goals.

I’ll also give you 4 actionable steps you can take to start to redefine what healthy is on your own terms. I hope this episode helps to Refuel Your Fire, and look forward to sharing more with you all soon :)

  • You can't tell me who I am
What's self awareness and why is it important? When you were growing up did you have parents, teachers or other people close to you telling you who you were, what you were good and not good at, what your interests should and shouldn't be? In today's episode I'm exploring how it can be difficult to figure out who we are when we have other people in our lives trying to define our narrative for us and how I recently found my way past that.

I also talk about the 16 personality types, different cognitive functions and mental health challenges. Please see the links below for resources and further information:

  • Why taking risks is important & breaking through the assumptions that hold us back
In this episode I'm talking about risk-taking, types of risks and why taking risks is important to achieve our career and life goals. I also share 3 types assumptions: paradigmatic assumption, prescriptive assumption and causal assumption to help us understand more about how we can get in our own way or identify how others can get in their own way of reaching their potential.

To access the episode on decision making I mention in this podcast head over to my episode published on Nov 30th, 2020: "Decision making in business for optimal growth"
