  • ROOTS & CULTURE VOL. 16
In times of political tension, endless headlines, and growing division, music stands as a reminder of another way forward. Reggae has always spoken where words fail. By carrying truth, resistance, and hope on a steady heartbeat. Against war, violence, and fear, not with anger, but with clarity and warmth. It’s music for reflection and resilience, for remembering our shared humanity when the world feels fractured and helps us to remain rooted in the belief that peace is not passive, that love is not weak, and that unity is a radical force.

  • TOOTS HIBBERT TRIBUTE MIX
Frederick "Toots" Hibbert (1942–2020) was a legendary Jamaican singer, songwriter, and the frontman of the band Toots and the Maytals. He is widely considered one of the most important pioneers of reggae; his 1968 song "Do the Reggay" is credited with giving the genre its name. Beyond naming reggae, Hibbert shaped its sound by blending ska, rocksteady, gospel, and soul. His soulful voice often drew comparisons to Otis Redding. He produced timeless classics such as "Pressure Drop," "Monkey Man," "Funky Kingston," and the autobiographical "54-46 That's My Number," which was inspired by his time in prison during the 1960s. Hibbert won two Grammy Awards for Best Reggae Album: in 2005 for True Love and posthumously in 2021 for his final studio album, Got to Be Tough. Rolling Stone ranked him number 71 on its list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
