The Wethersfield School Board met on Thursday night. The meeting can be seen in its entirety on the WKEI RegionalMediaNews.com Facebook page. Wethersfield Superintendent Dr. Andrew Brooks joined Wake Up Tri-Counties on Friday morning to look back at the meeting and discuss some of the items that were passed by the school board last night. Among them is the official approval of a new Principal for Wethersfield Elementary School. Also discussed last was a plan for a grant funded Micro-Grid Program in partnership with several other school districts. This Micro-Grid Program involves solar power and the ability to purchase an electric power school bus at no cost to the school district.

The Whiteside County Health Department is providing comprehensive dental care for children through the age of eighteen. They also offer same day emergency care with pain for adults. Congratulations to Lexi Stone! Lexi is now the all time leading scorer in the history of Galva Girls Basketball. With a three pointer late in a winning effort against Knoxville, Lexi reached 1,180 points in her Galva Basketball career, making her the team's all time leading score. More important to Lexi however, was that this three pointer and the 23 points she scored on Tuesday led to a Galva Wildcats winning in overtime against Knoxville. WKEI caught up with Lexi on Thursday afternoon to talk about her new scoring record, her love of basketball and what the future holds for Galva's all time leading scorer.

RaeAnn Tucker from the Henry and Stark County Health Department joined Wake Up Tri-Counties on Thursday, February 9th, with news that the latest COVID-19 numbers are some of the lowest we've seen in months. 22 new cases over the last 7 days, confirmed by tests. No new cases in Stark County at all in the last 7 days. We are more than on track for when COVID-19 Emergency Designations begin to be lifted at the state and federal levels in May of this year. That said, if you are someone who has not been vaccinated or has not gotten a booster it is still very much recommended. COVID-19 isn't going away and it's better not to get it if you can avoid it. Vaccination greatly lowers the chance of getting COVID-19 and transmitting it to others.

Events for kids and adults this month at the Kewanee Public Library. Sara Billiet from the Kewanee Public Library joined Wake Up Tri-Counties on Thursday to discuss events such as Valentine Shaving Cream Marbling, a chance for kids to play with some shaving cream in a safe and creative environment and make a neat craft. Then there is the Valentine Gnome Crafting in the kids room at the library where kids can create Valentine's Gnomes for friends and family. As for the adults, Book Club is up and running in February, featuring author Kim Michele Richardson's book, The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek. Drop by the library during business hours for a copy of the book and join the book club Monday, February 20th at either 2 Pm or 6 Pm for book discussion.

This year, Seniors can get their license plates renewed for as low as $10.00 if they have qualifying income.
