Becky Albrecht stopped by the Breakfast Club this morning to talk about yesterday's meeting with representatives from local nonprofits.  Becky also  talked about upcoming chamber events to promote local businesses and the lunch local program, one of many chamber initiatives encouraging patronage of local eateries in Maryville.

The Kewanee Area United Way will be holding United Way Trivia Night on Friday, February 17th at the Kewanee Elks Club. Buy a table of 10 for $100.00 or you can pay $10.00 and be added to a team table at the event. Movie Trivia will be one of the themes of the night's questions. All proceeds from the event will go to support the agencies supported by the Kewanee Area United Way. A 50/50 raffle will be held at the event as well. Support the United Way on February 17th at the Kewanee Elks Club. Doors open at 5:30 Pm and trivia gets underway 6 Pm. Team captains can pay for their table at the door. On Thursday night, the Henry County Board approved a resolution opposing House Bill 5471, the assault weapons ban that passed the Illinois House and Senate early this month and was signed by Governor J.B Pritzker on January 10th, 2023. This move by the Henry County Board follows up on a letter published by Henry County Sheriff Joshua Verscheure earlier this month stating that he would not enforce HB 5471. The law is currently on hold pending a court challenge. Henry County Board Chair Kippy Breeden did not elaborate on the resolution, rather she only announced its passing in our interview on Wake Up Tri-Counties on Friday morning. The Henry County Board Chair did say that the County would offer more information soon via a press release. Kippy Breeden was joined on Wake Up Tri-Counties by Henry County Economic Development Director Jim Kelly who talked about the Rural Revolving Loan Fund. New loans were approved at Thursday's meeting and there is more money in the fund for those seeking help in improving an existing business or starting a new business.

The Henry and Stark County Health Department has received a grant that will allow the Health Department to provide a new PrEP/HIV Prevention program & services. Mary Fuller, Nurse Practitioner at First Choice Healthcare and the Health Department joined RaeAnn Tucker on Wake Up Tri-Counties on Thursday to talk about the grant, what the new services and programs are all about and how this benefits communities served by the Henry and Stark County Health Department.

Kewanee School District Superintendent Dr. Chris Sullens joined Wake Up Tri-Counties on Thursday to talk about this past week's Kewanee School Board Meeting. At the meeting the Superintendent and members of the Board took time praise the recent production of Anastasia put on by the Kewanee Theater Department. Also, the Superintendent gave us an update on construction projects at Belle Elementary, at Kewanee High School and in Neponset, each of which has benefited from relatively good weather while working through supply chain troubles.

Wyatt and Julia from Northstar Advocacy were on the Breakfast Club to let people know they now have a Trauma Support Group. PTS Coach Lori Haas has joined forces with North Star to offer victims of abuse a place to talk with others who have experienced similar events in their relationship.
