The Kewanee Boilermakers defeated the Morrison Mustangs in a barnburner on Friday, September 2nd, 16 to 14. The back and forth battle found Kewanee trailing early 8 to 0. Then the Boilermakers got back on the board to make it 7 to 0 and three turnovers by Morrison in the first half turned the tide to get Kewanee another touchdown and a long field goal right before halftime for a 16 to 7 Kewanee lead at the half. In the second half, the Boilermakers defense did the trick. Despite giving up a 50 yard touchdown pass, the defense got the big stops when they needed them to maintain the lead and win the ball game. After the game, Coach Bradley Swanson spoke with Russ Hughes about winning the home opener on the new turf at Kewanee High School.

Henry and Stark County Health Department representative RaeAnn Tucker joined WKEI on Thursday with the latest on COVID-19. Numbers are up slightly in both Henry and Stark County with both Counties considered to be at Medium risk level for transmission of COVID-19. The Health Department is reminding everyone to consider taking precautions such as wearing masks if you are going to be in areas where there are a large number of people and, for those riding the rides at Hog Days this weekend, make sure to have some hand sanitizer before and after your ride to keep you and the next person to ride the ride safe. Next week, we will know more on next round of COVID-19 booster shots aimed at increasing immunity to the newest COVID-19 variants.

Cassandra Schmoll from the Henry County Senior Center joined Wake Up Tri-Counties this week to promote the Senior Center Hog Days Breakfast on Saturday, September 3rd starting at 7 Am. 7 Dollars gets you a complete breakfast from the Senior Center and you do not have to be a Senior to attend, bring the entire family. All proceeds from the Senior Center Hog Days Breakfast go to support the Home Delivered Meal Program in Henry County which serves more than 200 local Seniors, making sure that those in need always have a least one hot meal everyday. Support the Senior Center at the Henry County Senior Center Hog Days Breakfast Saturday morning starting at 7 Am. The Henry County Senior Center is located across the street from Wal Mart at 200 East South Street.

Diane Demay and Katie Yaklich with the Kewanee Farmer's Market joined Wake Up Tri-Counties this week to talk about the Kewnee Farmer's Market being at Kewanee Hog Days this Saturday. Vendors with fresh veggies and crafts that you can only get at the Kewanee Farmer's Market will be part of Kewanee Hog Days outside of the usual Farmer's Market location. For Hog Days weekend, the Farmer's Market will be located next to the Flea Market at Kewanee Hog Days. There are still two months left in Farmer's Market season so get in touch with Diane and Katie to get a space of your own as a vendor with the Kewanee Farmer's Market.
