The April 2022 edition of Kewanee Back When with Dave Clark and Sean Kernan featured an extraordinary special guest. Kewanee's own Daytona Motorcycle racing Champion Bill Scott has had quite a life, one filled with stories. After being told he was too small for Sports, Bill set out to prove everyone wrong in the world of motor sports where at the age of 19 he won Daytona and became a fixture on the racing circuit. Years later, via his family, specifically his father-in-law, Bill developed a love of the Model T and became one of the driving forces behind the Annual Model T rally in Kewanee. Bill has compiled his stories into a new book celebrating his faith called God and Me and my Model T. We were honored to have Bill Scott join us for Kewanee Back When.

Vinyl Nation is a new documentary from director Kevin Smokler and it charts the resurgence of Vinyl as the dominant form of physical media in music. Record sales have skyrocketed in the past 15 years from a time when the medium seemed to be going away to today where Record sales are in the 10s of billions of dollars. Director Kevin Smokler spoke with WKEI on Tuesday about vinyl records, Record Store Day and the awesome return of Vinyl. Vinyl Nation debuts on streaming rental services on April 19th, 2022. Record Store Day will be celebrated nationwide on April 23rd.

Wethersfield School District Superintendent Shane Kazubowski talked to WKEI about the end of the school year 2022. Recently, Wethersfield Seniors were in the community meeting with business owners and shadowing jobs that may interest them as they move on to college or into the working world. Shane also updated us on the upcoming Senior Picnic on the Wethersfield Football Field and plans for the Wethersfield Graduation ceremony taking place next month.

There were 16 new cases of COVID-19 in Henry County in the last 7 days and 0 new cases in Stark County. That's good news headed into a holiday weekend where families will be gathering and social gatherings will be occurring in many public space. The message from the Henry and Stark County Health Department is to test before your family gathering, especially if you have unvaccinated people or people with chronic health conditions planning to attend your gathering. Those with compromised immune systems and those who are unvaccinated are most at risk for COVID-19. This includes a new variant of the Omicron strain of COVID-19 which is causing an increase in cases in Europe and Asia. Thankfully, though the new variant appears to be highly transmissible, it is not causing severe illness the way the original, Delta or Omicron variants did. Still, the best defense against COVID-19 remains vaccination and for those over the age of 55 or those with compromised immune systems, a new booster shot of the vaccine is available now at Health Department locations in Kewanee and Colona.

The Henry County Farm Bureau wants to make sure you are aware of Grain Bin Safety. The Farm Bureau is using social media to call attention to Grain Bin Safety with a focus on educating people on the potential dangers of Grain Bins and how to prevent potential safety issues. Katie Laleman talked about Grain Bin Safety, among many other topics, on Wednesday's edition of Wake Up Tri-Counties. Katie also talked about Illinois Farm Bureau Scholarships available in fields related to trucking and veterinary services.

Author Kostya Kennedy is exploring the life of baseball legend Jackie Robinson through a unique book called True: The Four Seasons of Jackie Robison. The book examines the legend of Jackie Robinson at four specific points in his life before baseball, during his history making career, and what happened in the years following his career, to his death in 1972. 2022 marks 50 years since Jackie Robinson died and 75 years since he broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball.
