February 16, 2022Dr Chris Sullens Kewanee School District SuperintendentThe Kewanee School Board held a special meeting on Tuesday, February 15th in the Petersen Auditorium at Kewanee High School. The meeting was intended to address the mask mandate from Governor J.B Pritzker, an executive that is currently on hold while Governor Pritzker appeals to have it restored. On Tuesday night, rather than join other schools in lifting the mask mandate or making masking an option, the School Board took no action and kept the mask requirement for Kewanee students, staff and teachers in place while the court hearings play out. A man in his 60s and a man in his 70s died this week from COVID-19. That brings the total to 114 Henry County residents who have died from COVID-19. That unfortunate statistic aside, there is good news on the Omicron front. RaeAnn Tucker from the Henry and Stark County Health Department told Wake Up Tri-Counties on Thursday morning that it does appear that our area has reached and surpassed the peak number of Omicron variant cases of COVID-19.
