The Tax deadline in 2022 is three days later in 2022 due to a holiday only celebrated in Washington D.C. Michael Devine from the IRS tells WKEI that while April 15th is traditionally the tax filing deadline, it will be April 18th in 2022. This is because April 15th, 2022 falls on a day that Washington D.C, the District of Columbia, celebrates Emancipation Day. This means government offices will be closed on the 15th to honor the holiday and that includes the office of the Internal Revenue Service. That was one of several tax topics we covered with our friend Michael Devine from the Internal Revenue Service on Friday's Wake Up Tri-Counties on WKEI.

Sara Billiet from the Kewanee Public Library was our guest on Thursday, January 27th, 2022, on Wake Up Tri-Counties. Sara joined WKEI to talk about events at the Library happening in the month of February. Among the events coming up, a brand new iteration of the Adult NonFiction Book Club. This round of book club is called the Higher Learning Book Club and the first book for the club is Forensics by Val McDermid. Book Club meets February 15th at 6:30 Pm in the Community Room at the Kewanee Public Library.

On Thursday, January 27th, the Henry and Stark County Health Department announced three new COVID-19 deaths. According to the information from the Health Department, a woman in her 70s, a man in his 50s, and a man in his 80s, are the latest to pass away from COVID-19. In all, 107 Henry County residents have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began. RaeAnn Tucker from the Henry and Stark County Health Department spoke to WKEI about the latest COVID-19 statistics on Wake Up Tri-Counties on Thursday. The total number of new confirmed positive or probable cases of COVID-19 was down from the record high recorded last week but it is still far to early to determine if this means we've reached the peak of infections from the Omicron variant of COVID-19. The Health Department is still urging residents to get vaccinated as the best protection against COVID-19 and the Health Department has walk-in times available to get vaccinated on Tuesdays and Thursdays during regular business hours.

The new romantic adventure The King's Daughter is in theaters nationwide. It's the story of a girl born of a king but raised unaware of her royal heritage. When the girl is brought to the Kingdom, under the guise of a new court composer, she soon finds out who she really is, both as a secret member of the royal family and as an adventurer who finds herself falling in love with a ship's captain while they work together to save a real life mermaid. The King's Daughter is a lot of things but it is mostly very fun, romantic, and charming. Recently, I spoke with the director of The King's Daughter for a special edition of Sean at the Movies.

Lt Joe Kenda came to national prominence when the Discovery Channel featured his detective work on the series Homicide Hunter. That show took cues from Lt Kenda's own files on murders that he'd solved in his more than 20 year career as a Homicide Detective in Colorado. Joe Kenda's new series is now highlighting the work of other veteran detectives. The series is called American Detective and the second season of this widely praised series debuted today, January 26th, 2022, on the streaming service Discovery Plus.

The Galva City Council met on Monday, January 24th with several items on the agenda. Among the topics at the meeting was support for the Senior Center in Galva as the Council made a donation toward ADA compliance at the Senior Center. The Mayor also talked about plans to replace fire hydrants in the City and upcoming plans and projects in Galva. The Memorial Hospital Foundation has a goal in 2022 of expanding the ways that Memorial Hospital supports their employees. Jennifer Garner is the Director of Development at Memorial Hospital Foundation and she spoke with MacombNewsNow.com about the 2022 Memorial Hospital Campaign and theme, the progress still being made in the You Are My Sunshine 2021 campaign and the myriad ways that the Memorial Hospital Foundation is working to support the staff of Memorial Hospital in Carthage.

The Kewanee City Council met on Monday night in a meeting you can still find on the WKEI Facebook page. Mayor Gary Moore followed Monday's Meeting with an appearance on Wake Up Tri-Counties. In this conversation, the Mayor addressed the decision to end the Civil Service Commission which had been in place to advise on the hiring of City employees. The Mayor called the Commission antiquated and unnecessary as well as unnecessarily costly to the City. The Mayor then talked about newly appointed Fire Chief Stephen Welgat and discussed the formation of the new Kewanee Citizens Advisory Council.
