December 16th is the last day that you can call Kewanee High School and nominate a family or friend in need of a food basket. Amron Buchanan and Ken Knowles with Goodfellows joined WKEI on Tuesday to remind people to get those nominations in, even if you are nominating yourself, the Goodfellows want to help those who need it this Christmas. Delivery date will be December 21st and expectations are that more than 800 baskets will be delivered that day. Memorial Hospital is expanding services aimed at helping people recover quicker and get home faster. Chevie Lay, Occupational Therapist with Memorial Hospital spoke with MacombNewsNow.com this week about expanded therapy services at the hospital and the goal of aiding recovery for patients in an effort to return people home who can take care of themselves safely and effectively. Each patient recovering from various ailments needs a little something to make sure they can go home safely and that's where expanded therapy services at Memorial Hospital can play a key role in the process.

Todd Dedecker from the Bishop Hill Heritage Association joined Wake Up Tri-Counties on Tuesday, November 23rd, to talk about the Swedish Christmas celebration known as Julmarknad, The Christmas Market. The annual Julmarknad will take place in Bishop Hill over two weekends, Saturday and Sunday, November 27th and 28th, and December 4th and 5th. The entire Village of Bishop Hill will be teeming with traditions including Tomtes and make and take gifts. Plus the shops and museums of Bishop Hill will all be open with terrific traditional Christmas gifts for sale.

A mostly uneventful meeting of the Kewanee City Council was held on Monday evening, November 22nd, 2021. At this meeting the City of Kewanee heard from Skip-A-Long Daycare about a kids program that they are developing. The Council also did some house cleaning related to continuing a City Health Insurance contract with Blue Cross Blue Shield as well as staying current with federal and state guidelines related to the Family Medical Leave Act. The City vacated an abandoned city street in order to allow a resident to move forward with a garage addition, and the City signed off on several contracts for the destruction of decrepit buildings in the City of Kewanee. All told, six contracts were approved for the take down of blighted properties. Mayor Gary Moore talked to Wake Up Tri-Counties about the events of Monday's Kewanee City Council Meeting.
