The Henry and Stark County Health Department is holding a series of COVID-19 Booster Clinics beginning Friday, October 29th, 2021 at Black Hawk College. The clinic will be open to anyone age 18 years or older from 9 Am to 3 Pm. The Moderna vaccine is what is being given out but if you received J & J or Pfizer you can still get a booster of Moderna. Other Booster Clinics at Black Hawk College are set for Tuesday, November 2nd; Thursday, November 4th; and Saturday, November 6th at Black Hawk College-East Campus, 26230 Black Hawk Road, Galva, IL.

Galva Mayor Rich Volkert was our guest on Friday morning on Wake Up Tri-Counties. The Mayor joined WKEI to talk about new signs posted at Railroad Crossings in Galva. The City of Galva has received numerous complaints from residents regarding trains stopped in the city for lengthy periods of time with the City also expressing concerns regarding getting emergency services quickly to locations when a train is stopped and blocking more than one train crossing. The new signs call upon residents to contact BNSF Railroad when a stopped train is stopped for an unusually long period of time. The hope is that if more people contact the railroad the more cognizant the railroad will be regarding blocking access around the City of Galva. The Mayor also wrapped up business from Monday's Galva City Council Meeting on this edition of Wake Up Tri-Counties.

The Kewanee Public Library will host a Halloween Open House on Saturday, October 30th from 9 Am to 1 Pm. Parents are encouraged to bring the kids, in costume if they'd like, to come to the Library and trick or treat at the desks. You can also see the remarkable Storybook Pumpkins on display, Pumpkins painted in the style of famous children's books have been created by local families and are on display at the library. Sara Billiet from the Kewanee Public Library also promoted several events planned for the Library in November on this edition of Wake Up Tri-Counties.

The Annual Kewanee Area United Way Campaign is underway and Linda Blair with KAUW joined Wake Up TriCounties to highlight one of the agencies that benefits from your donations to the Kewanee Area United Way. Bill Horrell is with Alternatives for Older Adults and he spoke to WKEI about the senior services offered by Alternatives which can range from connecting people over 60 with needed care and services to more involved help in preventing elder abuse and helping seniors manage their money. Memorial Hospital is celebrating 1 year of Focus Fitness. The hospital took over the Focus Fitness facility one year ago this week and are celebrating that one year anniversary. Ashlyn Housewright from Memorial Hospital joined MacombNewsNow.com recently to talk about the changes and the upgrades of the last year at Focus Fitness. Memorial Hospital’s Fitness Center, FOCUS Fitness, has plans to hold a health fair event in celebration of their first birthday on Wednesday, November 3rd, from 4 pm until 6 pm at FOCUS Fitness on 103 Randolph Street in Carthage.

The Henry County Board met on Thursday, October 22nd, 2021. On Tueday, Board Chair Kippy Breeden and Administrator Erin Knackstedt, joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to wrap up everything the board talked about. This included a presentation by Henry and Stark County Health Department Administrator Duane Stephens on improving mental health services in Henry County, the approval of an all new and easier to navigate website for the Health Department, and final plans to hear the fiscal year 2022 budget in November, a budget that is said to be a balanced budget.
