Coach Tony Gripp is undefeated in his first two games as the head coach of a team that is lighting it up on offense with Darius Dickerson, Cole Troxell, and Sophomore QB Dillon Horrie and shutting teams down on defense, outscoring opponents 72 to 12 after two games. They are now preparing for week three at home against Princeville on September 10th, barring any last minute issues.

Sherrard had a rough first week in a tough luck loss against St Bede. Saturday evening the Monmouth-Roseville Titans will be in action at home hosting the Hall Red Devils. Both teams are coming off opening season losses and hoping to bounce back this week. Mon-Rose struggled against the Kewanee Boilermakers last Friday but there were positives to take away including the play of Running Back Derek Chandler who rushed for 119 yards on 15 carries. On the defense, Aden and Ethan Davis each had six tackles each and were getting after it even as the game got away. Following a blowout loss in their season opener against Farmington, Mercer County football is facing an even greater challenge with their season on pause over a positive COVID-19 test. Mercer County was set to take on the Knoxville Blue Bullets on Friday night but on Wednesday it became clear that the outbreak would be significant enough to cause the game to be forfeited to Knoxville as Mercer County cannot field a team. Knoxville Coach Ryan Hebard spoke to LocalSportsNow.com on Friday morning just as news of the cancellation was making its way to the media.

RaeAnn Tucker from the Henry and Stark County Health Department joined Wake Up Tri-Counties on WKEI with the latest on the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Henry and Stark County. Last week saw more than 180 new cases of COVID-19 between the two counties. The Delta Variant continues to be highly transmissible and the leading cause of the continuing spread. As you head to Hog Days this weekend do heed the call to wear a mask especially if you are in a crowded area. Your best bet is still to get vaccinated which you can do anytime during regular business hours at the Henry and Stark County Health Department First Choice Clinic in Kewanee.
