The Kewanee City Council met on Tuesday night in Council Chambers at Kewanee City Hall. There were no new business items in the agenda for the meeting but there were still plenty of things to discuss. A big topic on Tuesday night was speeding and approaches to getting people to slow down in certain problem areas in the City of Kewanee. Another big topic was bicycles and the complaints from many that the City of Kewanee is not bike friendly. Finally, we talked about this Saturday's City Wide Clean Up at the former Hospital site on Elliott Street. The City Wide Clean Up runs from 7 Am to 12 Noon on WKEI

The Kewanee League of Women Voters teamed with WKEI-RegionalDailyNews.com for a forum dedicated to the candidates for the Henry County Board District 2 election. 5 of 9 candidates for the four open seats on the Henry County Board participated in this forum and were each given up to 5 minutes to address listeners about why they believed they should be elected to the Henry County Board from District 2. Participants included John Sovanski, Ruth Kapacinskas, Jim Padilla, Shawn Kendall and Dwayne Anderson. Also taking part in the forum were candidates running unopposed for County offices including Circuit Clerk candidate Terilyn Motley, Henry County Coroner incumbent Melissa Watkins and Henry County State's Attorney candidate Cathy Runty.

The latest numbers from the Illinois Department of Public Health show that the infection rate across the state of Illinois is on the rise. As of Monday, the 7 day infection rate has risen to 4.3% of all tests conducted returning positive. This increase is alarming as is a spike of 27 new cases of COVID-19 in Henry County over the weekend. RaeAnn Tucker from the Henry and Stark County Health Department joined WKEI to talk about the numbers, what they mean and why they are important as part of our twice weekly COVID-19 podcast.

Operation Rescue Christmas is underway and Amber Patch Troxell joined WKEI on Tuned In to talk about the Battle of the Businesses, a part of Operation Rescue Christmas that combines raising money for the toy drive and promoting local business. Businesses have been challenged to come up with their own fundraising effort and the businesses that raise the most money for Patchy's Toy Drive will be crowned Christmas Heroes and receive a plaque for their hardwork. Battle of the Businesses is underway now and will run through November 14th.
