October 12, 2020Dave Mead and Pat Riley - Princeton Haunted EventsA couple of well-known area “haunters” visited Wake Up Princeton on WZOE recently. Dave Mead, the mastermind behind the annual Nightmare On Fairgrounds Road, and veteran haunt organizer Pat Riley discussed two new area events for this Halloween season. Indoor haunts like “Nightmare” are not allowed in Illinois currently due to the coronavirus protocols. But Dave says kids have had so much taken away this year, they should not lose Halloween too. He and Pat have created a couple of new events that follow all safety and social distancing guidelines. The first is the Haunted Thrill Ride at the Bureau County Fairgrounds which brings the haunt to you as a drive-thru event with vehicles traveling at 5 miles-per-hour and keeping five car lengths of separation. The event is free but donations will be accepted as it is a fundraiser for the Bureau County Fair. The Haunted Thrill Ride is from 7 to 9 p.m. every Friday and Saturday through Halloween. The second event begins on October 17 and runs simultaneously. The Walk of Terror at Warnecke Woods north of Princeton is a classic “walk through the woods” haunt. You can find Warnecke Woods by traveling toward the Red Covered Bridge and taking the left turn before you go down the hill. Each group will be given a small lantern to use as they make their way through the haunted woods. Pat says there will be no haunt like this in the state this year. It takes about 35 minutes to complete and also offers the Devil’s Throat, a steep 140 foot walk down into a very spooky valley. The Walk of Terror is from 7 to 11 p.m. on October 17, 23-24 and 30-31. Admission is $10 and $5 for ages 6 and under....more23minPlay
