On Monday night, the Kewanee School Board settled on a hybrid program with restrictions on in-school learning and a combination of students going to school and students e-learning or attending classes from home. This hybrid program will be in place for at least the first 9 weeks of the new school year which begins August 19th. July 22, 2020Kewanee Back When The Earle Hotel Fire March of 1958On March 17th of 1958 two people were killed when the Earle Hotel located in the 200 Block of 3rd Street, where the People's National Bank parking lot now exists, caught fire. 28 residents of the long term stay hotel were left homeless while one resident, it was determined, set the fire with the intent of being the hero who rescued people from the fire. The girls won going away over the weekend, going undefeated in tourney play in Des Moines. They wrapped a 36 and 1 season with a championship win on Sunday afternoon. On Sunday night, the girls returned to Kewanee and was met by police and fire escort from Annaway on IL 78 to Kewanee and all the way through the City of Kewaee. It was a magical moment with people lining the streets to waive and cheer.
