Erin Koticek is among those incredibly busy editors reading endlessly to make the best recommendations and she put down her latest tomb to tell WKEI about the Top 10 Books of 2020 so far...

Kewanee Mayor Gary Moore tells WKEI that while the budget for the next fiscal year is tighter than anyone is comfortable with, carrying with it a deficit, it's the best possible budget at this time. The Mayor says that cutting employees was never an option and assuring employees of their jobs was among the priorities in finishing the budget. We also talked about the revolving loan fund and how it is helping local businesses and about the newly revived Commission on Human Relations.

Jared Cohen has fought a more than three year battle to bring the movie Street Survivors: The Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash to the big screen. When he began, he'd planned on making use of classic Lynyrd Skynyrd tunes with the aid of Skynyrd drummer, Artemis Pyle. The story of Street Survivors is based on Pyle's own book and his eye witness account. Pyle features prominently in the movie as unique stylistic experiment as well. Street Survivors is now arriving for rental on On-Demand streaming services on June 30th. It may not have the classic Lynyrd Skynyrd tunes, but it does have Artemis Pyle whose presence lends the movie credibility and authenticity.

The Greatest Comeback continues for local businesses including Illinois Valley Music Therapy in Princeton. Owner Michelle Mortensen is a Board-Certified Music Therapist. She says she has actually been busier during these past several months. She says all sorts of people can benefit from music therapy, including those with acute and chronic pain, substance abuse issues and developmental disabilities. Michelle helps all ages from children to adolescents and the elderly. Music therapy helps improve self-esteem, focus, concentration, memory and social skills while helping to decrease anxiety, depression and pain perception. Gary Revel's story maybe too impossible to be believed. Revel was a musician who'd gone to Vietnam and made it home, worked in military intelligence and rocked out in the Haight and in the the legendary L.A scene of the late 1960's. How does that guy also end up as an investigator on the assassination of Martin Luther King? Well, you'd need to buy Gary's new book "To Live or Maybe Not."

Kewanee Police Chief Troy Ainley says the reason for the Pet Registration ordinance recently passed by the Kewanee City Council was to make it easier for Police to reunite pets with their owners. The ordinance requires pet owners to register their pet with the City of Kewanee by September of this year at a cost of $5.00 per pet per year, renewing in the month of May. We also talked to Chief Ainley about the plague of fireworks being set off around the city, often late at night.
