June 17, 2020Dr Chris Sullens Kewanee School Board MeetingThe Kewanee School District met on Monday evening and Dr Chris Sullens, Kewanee Schools Superintendent joined WKEI on Wednesday to talk about what came about from Monday's meeting. Dr Sullens addressed school funding and he tells WKEI that thankfully, despite issues across the state budget, the school funding program remained at 2019 levels. The School Board set a budget during Monday's meeting for the school year. June 17, 2020Mayor Gary Moore 615 City Council MeetingAt Monday night's Kewanee City Council Meeting, the Kewanee City Council heard from auditors regarding the 2019 fiscal year. The audit of City of Kewanee Finances is an annual function of outside accountants but has been held up for several months due to accounts that were not balancing properly. Those issues resolved, the Audit was finally completed and delivered on Monday night. Mayor Moore says he was satisfied with the results of the audit but did suggest a change in the accounting going forward. The fiscal year budget for the City of Kewanee will have to wait two more weeks to be made official, new numbers released on Monday afternoon caused council members to request the budget be tabled for two weeks for further examination. Finally, the City Council voted unanimously in favor of requiring registration for dogs and cats in Kewanee City Limits. A fee of $5.00 per year per pet along with failure to register penalties are part of the ordinance....more17minPlay
