Midwest Partners founder Rick Brooks recently was the guest on the inaugural edition of “Coffee with Paul” on the WZOE morning show. He has served on nearly 40 boards of directors, commissions and advisory boards, and co-founded several nonprofits. Those include Little Free Libraries, which promotes literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchanges worldwide.

Midwest Partners promotes caring and service across cultural, physical and social barriers. They have helped establish a regional Small Business Development Center and promote new tourism and Main Street initiatives in the arts, historic preservation and bicycle-friendly community design.

Rick also operates “YouAreHere”, a welcome center at Princeton's Amtrak Depot. He owns The Bike Place in Princeton which has given away many bikes and sold others for no more than $30.

Princeton Quarantine Giveaways is using Facebook and already raised more than $15,000 for local businesses who have suffered during the pandemic. Participants who donate $5 are eligible to win a variety of prizes via a drawing.

His latest initiative is “56 Reasons”, which puts a spotlight on local businesses and individuals who contribute to the community. To nominate a business or person email [email protected] or contact The Bike Place in Princeton.

Just as we expect Phase 4 of the Re-Open Illinois plan gets underway, a group of people plan on celebrating with some volleyball, sand volleyball at Northeast Park. Kelli Jackson is the driving force behind a 3 on 3 Sand Volleyball tournament at Northeast Park in Kewanee, June 26th to the 28th. Kids as you as 11 can be part of 3 person teams to play in the tournament which is raising money for our Kewanee Parks Department. Michael Devine from the IRS was our guest on People to People on Thursday. Michael joined WKEI to talk about being one month away from this year's extended tax deadline. By July 15th you will need to have filed your taxes or face potential late filing penalties. Michael also talked to WKEI to encourage those who've perhaps simply not filed taxes in several years. The deadline to make sure you file your 2016 income taxes and to still receive a refund if one is owed to you, is also July 15th of 2020. Michael estimates that Illinois residents failed to collect nearly $54 million dollars in tax refunds in 2016.

Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace has a brand new book available now. It's called Countdown 1945: The Extraordinary Story of the Atomic Bomb and the 116 Days that Changed the World. Chris tells WKEI that he wrote the book in the style of a thriller as the true story of the Atomic Bomb lent itself to such a presentation.
