Henry and Stark County have gone the last 4 days without a new case of COVID-19. Statewide, the numbers continue to rise with 45,883 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Illinois. The death toll is approaching 2000. Currently, the number of Illinois residents who have died from COVID-19 is 1,983. 96 Counties in Illinois have at least one confirmed case.

It is highly unlikely that Galva Freedom Fest will happen. That's the stark reality that Mayor Rich Volkert and the Galva City Council addressed at Monday night's Galva City Council Meeting. It's not just a question of bans on large gatherings, there is also the question of fundraising which has lagged for the event due to COVID-19. Mayor Volkert also discussed road work, the struggling Motor Fuel Tax and the state of where the City of Galva is in relation to opening businesses in the former Galva Opera House.

Kewanee Mayor Gary Moore joined WKEI on Tuesday morning to discuss the lengthy agenda of Monday night's Kewanee City Council meeting. 9 Items were voted on and passed and two discussion items were also on the agenda. The City of Kewanee approved of a resolution that will allow small businesses to partner with the City of Kewanee to seek funds via the Downstate Small Business Stabilization Program. City Engineer Scott Hinton laid out the limited options related to summer road work in Kewanee. The City approved contracts with new businesses for asphalt, seal-coating, as well as a contract to re-paint one of Kewanee's water towers. Money for repairs to the Waste Water treatment plant was approved and the Council discussed the Neponset Ambulance contract as well as yard waste and recycling pick-up.

No new COVID-19 diagnosed cases since last Thursday in Henry or Stark County. That said, the message doesn't change. Continue to Stay at Home, continue social distancing, continue washing your hands often. New guidelines from the Governor have made face masks mandatory as of May 1st for those medically capable of wearing them. Masks must be worn in any congregate setting where social distancing of 6 feet or more is not possible. In store settings, facemasks are mandatory. We also discussed new essential businesses and businesses able to operate curbside services.

This week, Dr Martin encouraged people to continue to use emergency services as needed. Henry and Stark County have voted to extend the current disaster declaration for each county through the end of May. The decision came both before and after the Governor had extended his stay at home order to the end of the month. The Stark County Board had voted for extension earlier this month. Henry County passed the extension after the Governor's annoucement. We spoke to Henry County Board Chairman Marshall Jones about the latest disaster declaration and what it means for the Henry County Office of Emergency Management.
