In today's Daily Briefing on COVID-19, RaeAnn Tucker from the Henry and Stark County Health Department discussed the latest numbers. Henry and Stark County remained the same on Tuesday. 37 cases of COVID-19 in Henry County and 1 in Stark County. Statewide numbers were on the high side. 119 were confirmed to have died from COVID-19 on Tuesday. 1551 more cases were confirmed. That brings the state total to 33,059 confirmed cases. 1,468 people have died from COVID-19 in Illinois.

Can COVID-19 be considered an act of God and can that be used to legally break a contract? Judges are being asked this question as businesses struggling through the pandemic are having to find ways to honor contracts with employees and vendors while not having the revenue they once had for these contracts to hold their value. We spoke with Fox News Radio legal expert Loretta Powers about COVID-19 and contracts. We also discussed how COVID-19 is altering the laws related to the treatment of Opioid Addiction. It's a corner of our law that is vast yet overlooked right now. Restrictions on treatments are being relaxed in order to compensate for the lack of in person care that those in need of treatment can no longer get. Finally, we discussed the legality of releasing President Trump's former lawyer, Michael Cohen. Just how much freedom should non-violent offenders who receive early release, due to the virus, have?

The Kewanee City Council met for a budget meeting on Monday night. Nothing was voted on but the council met for 2 plus hours on an array of subjects. City Councilman Mike Komnick joined WKEI on Wednesday to talk about the City of Kewanee's IT costs and needs, broadband, and Police overtime questions that were addressed Monday night. The City of Kewanee has some cyber-security issues to address. The council is still weighing a broadband proposal that could bring more internet competition to Kewanee and work is being done to address the overtime needs of the Kewanee Police Department.

Denise Ihrig, Director of the Bureau County Senior Citizens Association, reminds residents that the Bureau County Senior Center in Princeton is still helping seniors  during the coronavirus situation.

Ihrig called Wake Up Princeton and visited with morning show host Paul Bomleny. She said the senior center is closed to the public but they're still doing business and helping seniors throughout the county via telephone.  Their transportation is still running and they are doing home-delivered meals as well as food banks on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Dr Chris Sullens joined WKEI for a special bonus edition of People to People on Tuesday. Dr Sullens was on hand to follow up on Monday night's School Board Meeting. On the agenda was an update on E-Learning activities. E-Learning will continue through the end of the current school year. Dr Sullens also discussed contingencies in place now that Governor Pritzker has officially ended in-person schooling for this school year. Bids were put out and work could begin soon on the security entrance at Central School. And Dr Sullens sent best wishes and heartfelt sympathy to Kewanee High School Seniors who will miss the remainder of this year in Sports. Plans are in the works to hold a form of a graduation and Prom has been rescheduled in hope that it will be able to take place in the summer.
