Regular Joes Podcast

It's the 150th episode, and not unlike the previous 149, it's just a few friends hanging out and talking about the stuff they like. For this episode the circle expands to include Derryl DePriest, uber collector and the mutual friend who first introduced the RJ crew. After a round of What's in the Box, including the unboxing of a 60's era holy grail, the Joes weigh in or a series of randomly selected questions covering the evolution and scope of their interests over the previous three years. "The movie you most wish you had not seen a SECOND time?" This week X-Men Apocalypse landed with a thud equal to several tons of ferrous metal being ripped out of the ground and dropped from the sky by a once good, then evil, then good again, then evil with justifiable motivation, mutant with magnetic powers. If you can't picture that then you have likely missed most of the X-Men films to date. In a rare case of near total agreement the Regular Joes weigh in with their take on, depending on how you count, the 10th, 6th or 3rd X-Men film in this cycle. Superhero films are a mixed bag. Perhaps nothing illustrates this better than the contrast between Fantastic Four (2015) and Deadpool (2016), the two most recent Marvel Comic based films developed outside of Marvel Studios. Why did one film become a runaway success while the other a very expensive failure? Is it good decision making by the respective producers, writers and directors?
