  • 554: A Regular Joes Christmas 2024
This week, Barry, Dave and Tod, reputedly the three hardest people in the known universe to buy for, exchange Christmas gifts. This may seem like an exercise in futility, but it has become tradition. On the whole this was a good year. Barry didn't buy himself anything a week before the gift exchange, Dave didn't already have everything, and Tod grudgingly accepted that he has gone up a tee shirt size. Thanks for listening, and have a Happy New Year!

  • 553: Krypto . . . Take Me Home
From the Max Fleischer cartoons, the early serials, the 1950's series, and back to movie screens and a succession of TV shows, no other hero has left the footprint in pop culture that the Man of Steel has. An orphaned refugee who gives back to the world that took him in, Superman is intrinsically tied to the American mythos. It seems that every generation has a Superman, and this summer James Gunn will bring the newest incarnation to the big screen. The first trailer for Superman (2025) is out and the Regular Joes break down the brief glimpse into familiar characters, and many never before seen on screen. While the stakes remain high, the dark and broody tone of recent years seems to be behind us. The only question that remains is, are you ready to believe in Superman … again. And, as they close out the year, the Joes squeeze in one last batch of Random Topics, and one more round of What's in the Box. Thanks for listening!

  • 552: 2024 in the Rearview Mirror
This episode the Regular Joe's roll the dice, betting that nothing fantastic will happen in the next two weeks, as they do their annual year in review show. With Brian Mix and Derryl DePriest singing back up, the Joe's cover the greatest hits and the biggest misses from the past year. There are surprises, and some familiar favorites, as they review the movies TV, series, events, acquisitions and happenings that punctuate 2024 as it fades in the rearview mirror. Thanks for listening!

  • 551: Skeleton Crew
It's December, so there must be a new Star Wars series on Disney+. Do you like watching children getting in trouble, running, and screaming? How do you feel about pirates? Do you have fond memories of watching The Goonies (1985)? If so, Disney+ has the show for you. Surprisingly, it seems to be the show for others as well, as Skeleton Crew has landed well with critics, Star Wars fans, and yes, all three Regular Joes. There will be SPOILERS, so you should check out the first few eps before listening. If you were wondering where his last week's show went, Dave catches you up on his most recent trip to the happiest place on earth. There's a bit of discussion about someone dropping the cost of a high end private jet on a pair of 85-year-old footwear, a round of What's in the Box, and the usual Random Topics. Thanks for listening!

  • 550: I Watched it With Shatner
For the landmark 550th episode the Regular Joe's are again joined by Irregular Joes Derryl DePriest and Brian Mix. After an extremely far reaching round of Random Topics, the hosts discuss the just released Star Trek short, 765874 Unification, from OTOY studios in collaboration with the Roddenberry Archive. With callbacks to the unaired pilot, the original series, the Next Generation, the Kelvin Universe, Discovery, and Picard, the brief video is deeply routed in the Star Trek universe. For fans who were underwhelmed by Kirk's death in Star Trek: Generations, or disappointed by the brief reference to Spock's death off screen in Star Trek Beyond, unification provides some intensely satisfying closure for one of the greatest friendships in sci-fi lore. And, because Brian somehow always knows how to be at the right place at the right time, he shares his experience watching the premiere of the short alongside William Shatner. How's that for a phaser drop? There's also around of What's in the Box. Thanks for listening!

  • 549: Oz and Agatha
It's been a few months since a pair streaming series based on secondary characters from Marvel's WandaVision (2021), and DC's The Batman (2022) debuted. Expectations, and the level of excitement, was low for both of these offerings. Now that Agatha all Along and The Penguin have wrapped the Joe's go back and review the two series as a whole. Agatha, with an eccentric ensemble cast, followed the Witch's Road, on a surprisingly entertaining journey, which proved alternately humorous, and quite dark. While over in the seedy, and still water soaked, underbelly of Gotham City, Oswald Cobb (played by an unrecognizable Colin Farrell) gave a brutal new dimension to an 80+ year-old Batman villain. MAX's The Penguin is a surprise hit and on the top of the year's best list for at least two of the Joe's. And there's also the usual Random Topics, and a round of What's in the Box. Thanks for listening!

  • 548: Coming Distractions 2024 - 2026
This week the Regular Joes address the science (empirically provable facts) and fiction (ain't never gonna happen) state of the last few years of Disney/Star Wars film/project/director announcements. From the reality side of the equation, they discuss recently dropped trailers for two Marvel films Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* in the queue for the coming months. Which of these continues to gain interest, and which is slowly edging its way into the, "we'll see" category? If you enjoy watching social security eligible men doing risky things you're going to be excited for Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning, which has a new trailer, a new title, and lots of Tom Cruise running. Lastly Dave goes to another con. Oh the Horror! There's also the usual Random Topics, and a round of What's in the Box. Thanks for listening!

  • 547: Rhode Island Comic Con 2024
Last week the Regular Joes (all the Regular Joes) travelled from up and down the east coast to gather in Providence RI, for the Rhode Island Comic-Con, AKA the biggest con in the littlest state. After spending a day and a half, roaming the sales floor and checking out the show's guests, the Joes took their traditional Sofa in the lobby of the Omni Providence, to share their experience with you. Who they saw, what they picked up, and why Barry actually bought comics at a comic con. They had a few celebrity guests stop in along the way, including Michelle Ang, Omega from Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and Dr. Britt Burke DMD (AEW) a pro wrestler, and …. yes, a dentist. It's always a good time at the Omni. Thanks for listening!

  • 546: American Werewolf with Tom Spina
As impossible as it might seem, until quite recently, Barry had never seen An American Werewolf in London. This week, the Regular Joe's, joined by Tom Spina of Regal Robot, take a look at the 1981 John Landis horror/dark comedy cult classic. Tom shares his first-hand experience with one of the screen used props, and recounts his own meeting with John Landis. Groundbreaking in many ways, the film earned Rick Baker the first ever Academy award for best makeup. In addition to an unforgettable transformation sequence, American Werewolf also has early 80s era Jenny Agutter, and that's never a bad thing. More than 40 years later, the film remains scary and makes for a good Halloween rewatch. There's also the usual random topics, and a round of What's in the Box. Thanks for listening and happy Halloween.

  • 545: The RICC Sniff Test 2024
As the Regular Joe's annual outing to the Rhode Island Comic Con draws near it's time for the Joe's review of the guest list for the convention. While normal folks may be contemplating which celebrity guests they are most interested in getting autographs from, the hosts have their own, sometimes humorous, and other times awkward, way of articulating their own preferences. Yes, it's time again for Sign, Smell or Pass, where the Joes ID who they want to get autographs from, or who they just want to get in close proximity to. Really, it's not as creepy as it sounds. There's also updates from Dave and Barry's recent excursions and the usual Random Topics. Thanks for listening!
