A car is definitely a necessity in today's world. But being a necessity does not make it an asset, despite what car salesmen will say. In fact, a personal vehicle is one of the greatest liabilities you’ll ever own. It requires regular maintenance, it may occasionally come down with costly issues, it needs gasoline which does not have a stable nor predictable price, and it requires insurance to legally drive it, even though you may never use it.
Let’s not forget, the government is here to stick it to you again, forcing you to pay money for your driver’s license, registration, tags and plate.
For goodness sake, the thing loses 15% of its value the moment it’s driven off the lot.
The one thing that prevents most people from ever attaining wealth is the monthly car payment.
This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t buy a car. This doesn’t mean you should only buy it outright with cash. This doesn’t mean walk everywhere you need to go or ride a bike (but do it if you can). It means don’t continue buying new cars every five years. Today's episode will give you some very good ideas about cars.
