  • Studio Series: Hire Great Staff and Retain Your Instructors

Get ready for a dual episode on staff and instructors!

One of the biggest questions I get by far is around finding and hiring great staff. Unfortunately, in the yoga / fitness space, hiring and interviewing are not intentional enough and as a result, best friends, family members, and clients are thrown into roles because the owner (YOU) are so desperate for help, anyone you know will do! This never leads to success, and in turn, results in ruined relationships and lost revenue. In this episode, I review why this piece of your business is so critical to overall success, and I walk you through strategies for writing a thorough job description, finding great candidates, right fit/right role, and interviewing recommendations. In the second half of this podcast, I address the common lament of owners which is, "How do I get my instructors to stay at my studio, instead of leaving and either opening their own studio down the street or going to my rival's business?". Listen to learn how to retain your instructors the right way. Hint: it's not pay.

  • Overcoming Challenge: Stage 3 Cancer at 39

And now, for a deeply personal episode where I share overcoming one of the most serious, life changing challenges I've experienced. I share this because I think it's important for my listeners (you) to know what drives me to keep teaching and sharing positive, affirming, success building strategies for life and business. In my life, yoga has been transformational and it was through my yoga practice (and my work) along with other coping / health practices, a brilliant medical team, and supportive community, that I was able to survive this extremely difficult experience and build the consulting practice you know today, all while raising my then 4 year old daughter.

It's meant to inspire you to rise above what life throws you, and use it as an experience to motivate others and grow stronger, more resilient, and grateful.

  • Studio Series: Sales as Education and Service

Sales is NOT a dirty word! For many reasons, a lot of people in the yoga world think of it that way and literally cringe when I bring up that they must have a sales process for their clients. I'm here to change your mind about it - because sales is actually the highest form of customer service you can provide. It's education and service when done right. Your clients are coming to you for a reason. They need something, and in this case it's yoga. It's your responsibility as an instructor and/or studio owner to educate them on what to buy in order to participate in your classes, privates, workshops, events, retreats, teacher training etc. If you don't educate them on what to buy, then they won't get the benefits of yoga. It's that simple. In this episode, learn about reforming sales as education, how to talk to clients about intros, auto pays, packages, pricing in a way that just provides information and choices so that they can achieve their goals.

  • Overcoming Fear: My Career in Yoga Begins

How many times have you let fear stand in the way of your interests, goals, dreams? We all have. One of my biggest fears was public speaking. This is not original or unique, in fact it's the #1 fear over death in America. So I'm typical. I had the kind of fear that made my heart race, I started sweating terribly, I stuttered, and could barely speak when it was as simple as just saying my name in a class! With that kind of crazy reaction, I never thought I'd be able to achieve my dream of getting on stage and speaking to hundreds of people about yoga, business, and software! Let alone teach countless numbers of people in of yoga classes all over California and Hawai'i for 5 years.

In this episode, I share my journey of overcoming fear of speaking which started with my yoga practice, and the desire to be a yoga teacher. This one leap lead to my entire career in yoga, from age 18 to present day, some 30 years later. Yoga has been the central component to my  transformation, as well as the catalyst for reaching my goals as I traveled my path from managing studios, teaching, working at MINDBODY, presenting at global conferences, to consulting with clients all over the world, to advising tech partners in the fitness/wellness space. It's been an interesting journey, and I credit my first yoga class as the beginning of all of it! Tune in for the journey, I hope it inspires you to take the leap and try yoga as a wonderful transformative agent for change. Inner and outer alike.....
