David Kaplan and Gordon Wittenmyer discuss several topics beginning with the Cubs good start to the 2023 season, with strong showings against good teams like the Brewers, Rangers and Mariners. Kap says the team might be a surprise all season, while Gordon admits even he didn’t see this coming. Gordon adds that Dansby Swanson, the big free agent addition for the Cubs, had been better than advertised. 

Marcus Stroman is another talking point, leaving Kap to question whether the Cubs would consider extending him sooner than later after a hot start and appearing as if he’s settled into the team’s top starter. Gordon throws water on the topic saying he believes that Stroman will exercise his opt out and the Cubs will move on without him. 

Plus, how could the Cubs give Stroman the money if they’re going to be players for Shohei Ohtani?  That’s right, Bob Nightengale reported it could be the case which has Kap out over his skis and Gordon even suggesting a bet after Kap has brought the topic up nearly every podcast to date.
