Ocean waves create a natural rhythm that is soothing and can put anyone to sleep. That's why ocean white noise is the perfect sound if your baby is colicky or struggling to get some much-needed shut-eye. White noise for babies is used by millions of parents worldwide when it's time for bed.
Next time you need to put down your little one, try playing this 8-hour calming water sound.
While playing white noise for babies, it’s important to keep tabs on the volume, because any white noise machine, smartphone, or computer can put out levels that are too loud for your child. It's recommended to play the sound at least a few feet from where your infant is sleeping and to keep the volume no louder than the sound of a soft shower. Parents can download an app to turn their smartphone into a sound level meter. One good, free, option is the sound level meter app created by the U.S. National Institutes for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) available on the app store as the NIOSH SLM app.

Sometimes sleep for babies can be challenging. Parents, try this baby white noise for sleep to help calm your infant. The soothing relaxation of the white noise can help a baby sleep by masking distractions from family, the tv, music, traffic or other noise sources. Many pediatricians including Dr. Harvey Karp, author of The Happiest Baby on the Block, recommend white noise for babies.
White noise resembles sounds the baby heard in the womb, which has a calming effect. The sound masking can make it easier for your baby to fall asleep and remain sleeping without being awoken by distracting sounds. White noise is safe for infants and young children.

The rushing sound of water provides an ideal ambience for falling asleep. Waterfalls create a powerful natural white noise that help cover up distracting sounds such as a busy highway, loud neighbors, or a noisy TV being played in the other room. It can also be hard to fall asleep when your room is too silent — any small noise can wake you up!
This water sound provides the perfect solution, as it is not distracting like music and provides a soothing tone that can help you feel sleepy. Next time you find yourself tossing and turning, play this waterfall sleep sound and get the rest you need!

Night shift on the bridge. The captain and flag officers have all retired to their quarters, so it's just us ensigns holding down the fort. I lean back and listen to the sound of the engines humming along at a leisurely Warp 6. I hear the familiar boop, boop of the com officer in the corner as she practices writing an obscure dialect of Klingon to pass the time. The engineer checks the warp coil alignment for the third time tonight. And then there's that soothing warble… what is that warble? I've always wondered what made that sound. Never-the-less, it is peaceful here with absolutely no chance of alien attack or holodeck malfunction in the foreseeable future.
I make a subtle course correction before relaxing into a calm night of deep space travel: Engage! While off-duty, enjoy this space engine and bridge white noise to help you sleep or study.
