He earned his Ph.D. from Emory University with a specific interest in American religious history and its intersections with the growing field of world Christianity. Today the world is facing one of the greatest humanitarian emergencies in history with mass starvation threatening millions of people in South Sudan, Nigeria, Somalia and Yemen, while an unmatched refugee crisis continues in Syria.
