Welcome to part two of our discussion of Supergirl. We first discuss what superpower we would have, and it goes deliciously off the rails in the name of extreme comfort. Then, after sharing some listener feedback on re-casting, and revealing our picks from part one, we dig into a deep discussion of better and badder villains, including some great ideas from the comics. Speaking of comics, Mark and Lee help us with Supergirl’s history there, including her origin story, and relationship with her cousin (that other Super-hero you might have heard of). From there, we talk about how this remake could be the female-led superhero movie that the world has been waiting for. Or, it could be a Supergirl or Catwoman level disaster that pushes that idea back another decade or few. No pressure, Joe Hollywood. Then we discuss how we want the tone of the remake to be – more Iron Man tone The Dark Knight, if you will.

Here we’re talking about those folks who had one role that, no matter what other roles they play, we’re not able to see them as anything other than that one powerful role. Supergirl

Here is part one of our discussion around the much maligned Supergirl – our first superhero flick, and the first movie that we weren’t really a fan of the original. Don’t you fear, this isn’t a Haterade filled episode at all, though we do certainly express our wishes for a much better product in our remake. This includes both Mark and Lee considering removing two of the major characters completely from the movie, adding ‘groundskeeper ripped’ to the series of phrases coined on the podcast (joining ’80’s Handsome’ and ‘Sponsor Comedy’), a comparison of Peter O’Toole and Alec Guinness in terms of their fit (or lack there-of) in major sci-fi projects, and equal parts damnation and appreciation for the villains’ overacting in the original.

PS: Sorry about one of the audio tracks sounding a bit sub-par – the tech gods conspired against us, but it’s not too bad.

In part two of our discussion of 1988’s anime classic Akira, we talk about what we liked about the original, and what we’d change in a remake. Specifically, what we would need to change to make a live action version of the film, while maintaining the tone and spirit of the original. We learn a lot about voice acting in anime, and do our best to scheme what the heck to do with the WTF-worthy ending of the original.
