Removing Barriers

Episode 195

What do you think about para-church ministries? This is one of those subjects where if you ask a hundred Christians, you may get a hundred different answers. In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast we talk with recurring guest Shawn Henly about the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF), a worldwide college campus organization that claims it seeks to establish and advance witnessing opportunities of students and faculty. If that sounds a bit like Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ), you would be right. But what many of us do not realize is that these organizations, though established with good intentions, are completely infiltrated with unbiblical ideologies like feminism, woke-ism, and racism. We must expose these things to encourage reform and repentance. Shawn Henly of Cross Crusaders has been actively trying to warn and inform Christians of IVCF's departure from the scriptures for a long time now, and he joins us to peel back the rot underneath the veneer of christian evangelism. Don't miss this conversation--it will be a wake-up call for us to be vigilant against the works of darkness and take nothing for granted.

Episode 194

In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we are delighted to have Tricia as a guest to discuss homeschooling! Tricia is a successful homeschool veteran, having educated her own children and now providing help and encouragement to others. Homeschooling participation had been steadily increasing since the 1980s, but 2020 caused an explosive increase that intensified interest and criticism. The perfect storm of fear, government control, and social unrest shut the world down, and the ideologies infecting the school system were laid bare. Confidence was at an all-time low and suddenly, homeschooling was not just for fundies, zealots, hippies, and conspiracy theorists. Parents began to see it for what it was all along: a reasonable course of action for the education of their children. But is homeschooling the best option? Should we be encouraging parents to educate their children when most of them are not trained educators? What about socialization and extracurricular activities? Tricia has faced the skepticism and criticism that comes with the decision to homeschool, and she helps us peel back the curtain to see it through a lens of wonder and possibility, answering the objections and championing the merits. You won't want to miss this great conversation!

Series: What Do You Believe – 6

There is no shortage of religions and cults that promise salvation, joy, peace, or happiness. Followers can number in the billions as is the case with Islam, or it could be millions, as is the case with the Branhamists. Branhamism is the curious theology and collection of doctrines espoused by William M. Branham, a self-proclaimed prophet and faith healer. On today's episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we sit down with recurring guest Leopold to discuss all the tenets of this cult: its history, its leader, and its followers (many of whom persist today despite the evidence). Leopold runs the ministry Edimof, dedicated to teaching biblical truth and exposing false religions. Let us evaluate Branhamism by the Word of God, prayerfully trusting the Lord to remove all the barriers this cult creates to keep people from having a clear view of the cross.

Episode 192

Series: On the Mission Field - 19

The Fahringer family is on their way to Chile! In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, Geoffrey Fahringer takes precious time out of his day to tell us more about the country of Chile, the spiritual needs there, and his family's desire to minister to the people there. Chile is a long, narrow, beautiful strip of land in South America spanning from the base of Peru all the way down to the tip of the continent, and jumping the ocean to claim certain parts of Antartica. The people groups are diverse, but the need is the same: a saving faith and growing relationship with the Creator, the Lord Jesus Christ. Geoffrey Fahringer would have never in a million years seen himself as a missionary because he was far along the path of military service and law enforcement. But after the Lord saved him, it became increasingly clear that God had plans for his family in that beautiful country. Geoffrey and his family surrendered, and today we get to hear all about what God has been doing to bring a gospel witness to the people there. Don't miss this next installment of the On the Mission Field series right here on the Removing Barriers podcast.

Bonkers - 11

In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we continue our series titled "This World Has Gone Bonkers," where we grab headlines from all over that highlight the madness in our world. We will discuss the power the American president apparently has to just declare an amendment ratified and the law of the land, even when it isn't so. If you didn't realize he had that power, you're in good company, because we sure didn't realize it, either! We also discuss the hottest (no pun intended) dance gone viral as Los Angeles burns to the ground: the Newsom Shimmy! The tone-deaf governor debuted the moves for local news outlets while gleefully announcing ongoing talks with speculators on how to divvy up the charred remains of LA. If that isn't bonkers enough, we also discuss a Satanic temple opening a religious abortion clinic, as well as some doctors who withheld study findings on transgender mental health because the results did not support their activism. Join us on this new installment in the Bonkers series!

Series: What Do You Believe – 5

Hinduism is the world's third largest religion, surpassed only by Islam and Christianity. Having originated in the Indian subcontinent over 2,500 years ago, Hinduism is practiced by more than one billion people worldwide, 96% percent of which live in India. Hinduism came under the neon lights of American public discourse and scrutiny with Vivek Ramaswamy's candidacy for president in the 2024 election (see episode 142). What is Hinduism, and what do Hindus believe? Is it compatible with Christianity or does it stand in stark contrast? On this episode of the Removing Barrier podcast, we sit down with Jacob to answer these questions and come to a better understanding of that faith. Jacob is a stalwart Christian and, having been born and raised in India, has a more thorough understanding of Hinduism and how it differs from Christianity. He has graciously shared his time and knowledge with us, and we hope that this episode will help remove any barriers to Christ posed by Hinduism.

Episode 188

On this episode of the Removing Barriers Podcast, we sit down in the studio with Mike P. from episode 50 to discuss Greek! The New Testament was in Greek, so it stands to reason that studying Greek guarantees a deeper and more thorough understanding of what the Bible says. Make no mistake, the Bible can be understood in the English it has been translated into, but studying Greek will deepen our understanding of the Bible and its profound importance and benefit cannot be overstated. Mike has been (and is still on) a personal journey in learning Greek and discovering how it unlocks a more solid grasp of God's word. He shares the meaning of the differences between Classical and Koine Greek, how this can enrich our comprehension of the Scriptures, and how it can help us bless and encourage others to embark on their own journey to more fully engage with this fundamental text. Don't let the prospect of learning a little Greek frighten you--you will be amazed discovering just how much the scriptures will open up.

Episode 187

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (Isaiah 7:14, Isaiah 9:6, John 1:14, John 1:12-13)

Our deepest desire here at the Removing Barriers Podcast is to remove those barriers that keep us from having a clear view of the cross. The enemy is hard at work with diversions, distractions, lies, and traps to keep us from the truth. So today, let us go back to the beginning, back to the first Christmas in Bethlehem, where the God of the universe abased Himself to become a baby in a manger. We have two special little guests in this episode to help us read the historical account of Jesus' birth, so join us as we worship the King and give thanks for His salvation. Merry Christmas to you, and may God grant you a blessed 2025.

Episode 186

"Nobody does guns like the U.S. does guns."  -Aristotle, probably.

We don't need a bad meme to know that of all the nations on earth, the United States is the only one with the right to keep and bear arms enshrined in the law of the land with absolutely no restrictions. There are more guns than people in the U.S., and the number of gun owners in any other nation pales in comparison. But the United States is also in significant moral decline, and the absolute tragedy of preventable gun violence is a harrowing reality that demands attention. What that attention should be, however, is hotly contested with no real resolution in sight. Though the problem is complex and multi-faceted, one area seems to be gaining steam, namely, the prosecution of parents for gun violence committed by their children. Whether for a school shooting or a single person attack, parents have been indicted, tried, convicted, and sentenced for a crime they did not commit. Is this right? Should parents be responsible for major crimes their children commit? In what ways are parents responsible for the safety of their children and others when it comes to firearms? On this episode of the Removing Barriers, we sit down with gun expert and enthusiast Michael Jordan (of no relation to THEE Michael Jordan) to discuss the these questions, as well as role and impact society has in this matter.
