In Isaiah 49 we encounter a desperate prophet of God who feels he has failed the purposes to which he was called. God responds to His desponded prophet with a great vision for the ends of the earth. A vision that is ultimately fulfilled in God’s greatest redeemer, Jesus Christ. Pastor Ulysses in his exposition of Isaiah 49:1-6 calls the church to an elevated vision of God’s calling that is rooted and connected to the Great Commission. God, through his response to a desperate Isaiah, invites His saints to be part of this grand vision. After all, our problem is not that our visions are too big but rather that they are too small. Christ, in the Great Commission, has called His church to a big vision for the ends of the Earth.
