This week, we continue our new series titled "Jesus Stories", where we look at the transformative power of Jesus, how He is present in all of scripture as well as our lives today. The crossing of the Red Sea draws many parallels to other stories in the Bible, like the creation story and life of Moses. It also paints a picture of the resurrection of Jesus. However, one key difference was that Jesus exemplified trust and following God's will, which the Israelites did not. They needed course corrections as their worldview was changed into people under the hand of God.

God was just and loving to the Israelites and those in Egypt, as He both required a price to be paid but also was loving to allow a substitute to take their place. God did not merely liberate them, but set them free to live with their eyes on God. We too can live free because of the salvation we receive from our perfect substitute.

It revealed to Abraham and Isaac the true essence of faith that Abraham had and the submission that Isaac showed in response. This was ultimately a precursor to the demonstration of love that God showed for us as he sent Jesus to rescue us from our sins.

This week, we finish our series titled "Letters to the Church", where we are looking at the seven letters in the book of Revelation and the message they have for the church back then, the church of today, and our own church. This week, we study the letter to the church of Laodicea.

Laodicea was a wealthy community but they let that wealth take a central place in their heart. They were also quick to compromise and avoid any conflict. The church took on these characteristics and Jesus' message to the church was correcting them for not realizing these underlying issues. Like the church of Laodicea, we have to be vigilant in our own lives to not let these problems fester and take steps to combat the empty promises our culture offers us.
