This week, we are joined by guest speaker Jim Orate as we continue our series titled "Letters to the Church", where we are looking at the seven letters in the book of Revelation and the message they have for the church back then, the church of today, and our own church. This week, we study the letter to the church of Philadelphia.

Jesus' message to Philadelphia was one of encouragement. Though they might have been weak, they were strong in their faith and devotion to Him. Like the church of Philadelphia, we are also encouraged to remain faithful and to be able to experience the promises and gifts He has in store for us.

This week, we study the letter to the church of Sardis.

Unlike some of the other churches we have studied so far in this series, Sardis faced very little persecution. As a result, Jesus condemns the church for being spiritually dead. The church of today, like Sardis, may look healthy from the outside and doing the right things, but inside is spiritually numb and complacent. We can take comfort knowing that Jesus doesn't reach out to Sardis to only condemn Sardis, but to revive them.

This week, we continue our series titled "Letters to the Church", where we are looking at the seven letters in the book of Revelation and the message they have for the church back then, the church of today, and our own church. This week, we study the letter to the church of Thyatira.

Jesus commends the church for their growth and perseverance in the midst of a pervasive and opposite culture to their values. But the church had become tolerant and allowed outside practices and values to take root in the church. Today's modern church is also at risk of the same dangers with respect to our culture's views on many different things, like relationships. The letter to Thyatira is an invitation for us to examine our own lives for what we are tolerating that will later come back to hurt us and those around us.

This week, we continue our series titled "Letters to the Church", where we are looking at the seven letters in the book of Revelation and the message they have for the church back then, the church of today, and our own church. This week, we study the letter to the church of Pergamum.

Jesus commends the church for their faithfulness in the midst of a dark and oppressive environment. But the ever present pagan acts in the city were practiced by some in the church. Jesus calls them to repent from false teachers and false attitudes of indifference. Like the church of Pergamum, we too are constantly under influence by the culture around us and should not let the church be compromised or tolerant of sin.

This week, we study the letter to the church of Smyrna. When the church was addressed, they were facing severe persecution and enduring suffering because of their refusal to worship anyone else besides Jesus. Jesus recognized the great costs they were paying as a result of their faith. He was a source of comfort as He was both present with them in their suffering, understanding because of His own past experiences, and providing hope with His promise of the crown of life.

This week, we study the letter to the church of Ephesus. The church was commended for it's steadfast commitment to truth while being in the middle of challenging times. But while the church was committed to truth, it had lost love for Jesus and for one another. Jesus calls them to return to the love that they once had. This message doesn't just ring true back then, but for the modern day church and Renewed Life Church today.

This week, we begin a new series titled "Letters to the Church", where we are looking at the seven letters in the book of Revelation and the message they have for the church back then, the church of today, and our own church.

This week, we are reminded that there is an author of these letters, Jesus Christ. Although we have our own idea of Jesus shaped by personal experience or stories of His ministry, John describes Jesus to give us a glimpse of His full glory. Although John fell to the ground in front of Jesus, He was still personal and intimate to remind John to not be afraid. Jesus is both the authority that grounds the message to the church and inspires courage and hope.

This week as we celebrate Easter, we study the simple message of Easter, to come and see, to go and tell. Like those who first went and saw the empty tomb, the gospel is an invitation for all who are weary to come and see for themselves that Jesus overcame death. And just like Jesus charged the disciples, we have good news to share with those around us.
