  • Teaching People to Heal from Trauma: David Bothe
Trauma can come from many places--war, abuse, accident, events, etc.--and lead to symptoms such as flashbacks, guilt, hyper-vigilance, emotional distancing, and irritability. David Bothe, a holistic healer and founder of Hope & Haven Initiative, has developed a series of practices that people can use to shift their own nervous system to a healing state. He teaches individuals, caregivers, "battle buddies" and others to use these simple practices in the moment to make a positive shift.

  • Stories from a Soldier and Sailor: Interview with Jim Chambers
Lt. Colonel (retired) Jim Chambers joined the Army in 1969, and served as a Ranger in Vietnam. He started racing sailboats nearly 20 years ago; he and his boat SnowFox have won more trophies than he can count. Jim and I will talk about what led him to deliberately choose a career path filled with adversity, and how the lessons learned in his military career are relevant to facing other challenges on and off the water. I always love hearing his stories, and I think you will, too.

  • From Cop to Consultant: Rod Goelz's Journey
Rod Goelz loved being a cop. But injuries from an airplane crash ended his law-enforcement career, so he moved into the corporate world--where he survived downsizings, reorganizations, and a brain tumor. When people asked him how he did so well in the face of these challenges, he didn't have a good answer. Then he started to learn more about change and resilience, and found a vocabulary to describe his experiences. This led him into consulting, which allowed him to share what he had learned about change, adversity, and resilience. He'll talk about his journey and his passion for helping people break out of "victim thinking." And he might share a story or two about his 44-year romance with his soul mate.

  • The Wild Woman talks about Chronic Illness: A Conversation with Cindy Coney
Among the many kinds of adversities people can face, one of the most challenging is a chronic illness. I'm delighted to have Cindy Coney, author of The Wild Woman's Guide to Living with Chronic Illness, as today's guest. Cindy was diagnosed with lupus in 1980, and has used this as a catalyst to become an "ambassador of hope and resiliency." She is a speaker, author, expert, philanthropic force, and role model. We'll talk about the kinds of issues people with chronic illness face; the work Cindy does to teach, inspire, and help people; and resources that may be useful for people with chronic illnesses. If you'd like to learn more about Cindy and her work, please visit her web site.
