It is well known that Britain supported General Pinochet, after he came to power in Chile in a military coup in 1973, but British covert action in Chile prior to the coup is not.

Recently declassified documents demonstrate how, between 1960 and 1973, a secretive propaganda unit within the British Foreign Office sought to prevent, and later weaken, Salvador Allende's socialist presidency.

We are in a housing emergency, with Will McMahon

This week we are talking to Will McMahon, director of action on empty homes about their day of action on 9 October.

1) Over 100,000 families are living in Temporary Accommodation while over half a million homes have no permanent resident.

2) The wrong kind of housing is being built across the country - they are unaffordable to anyone on an average income to either rent or buy. These new builds are also being sold off-plan and ending up as Airbnb short lets, second homes or buy to leave empty wealth investments with no permanent residents.

3) Communities are being broken up as council estates that could be refurbished are being left to decline, to be replaced by yet more unaffordable new build.

4) The Climate emergency demands refurbishment, not demolition. Retrofitting 270,000 long term empty homes and council estates can help solve the climate crisis.

On October 9th there are street actions highlighting all of these issues and a national rally calling for empty homes to be used by those living in temporary and overcrowded accommodation and to meet the climate emergency.

This week on Resistance TVChris Williamson talks with Simon Harris aka Man Behaving Dadly we talk about his fundraising and trolling of the hard right. He runs more blogs and Facebook pages than he cares to mention but Southend News Network and Man Behaving dadly are just two to note.

One of his latest fundraisers "Help Are Own First" and its description “I have started this fundraiser because at the moment too many people seem to have forgotten that WE SHOULD BE HELPING ARE OWN FIRST!! “All money will be used to help ARE OWN.” has helped raise over £32,000 up to now.

It certainly appears to be from the Ukip line of thinking. But all was not as it seemed.When visitors scrolled down a little further to the note section they discovered what the fundraiser was truly all about. “For the purposes of this appeal ‘ARE OWN’ refers explicitly to Afghan families who are currently being resettled in the United Kingdom, This is because a lot of them risked their lives to help our armed forces and government officials with translation, interpreting and other tasks during the last twenty years, and to be honest if they didn’t, the United Kingdom may have had the teeniest, tiniest, weeniest role to play in this whole s***show.”

Simon has previously trolled Farage by fundraising for the RLNI to name a hovercraft after him, following Farage's claims about the charity.
